Let's start over... it sounds like you didn't really eliminate the PS bearing as the culprit. To do that you'll need to run it with the PS belt installed. If it squeaks (which we know it does) then uninstall the belt (the bearing will only make noise under load - spinning it by hand won't expose a bearing on the verge of failure). If it doesn't squeak with the belt removed that is probably your issue. If it still squeaks it is something else.

Remember the belts can be made too tight - there should be some deflection per the manual.

ooh ok. ill try it again when i go to my friends place cuz he has all the tools.

however, on a side note, would the PS be affected by whether or not the clutch is depressed or not? and depending on rpms, would it get louder?

The ps pulley can make noise under a load or not.As I said remove your ps belt and run the truck. If the noise goes away this imo points to the bearing going bad.Not to say the belt is too tight, but these bearings can have various points of noise, and or failure depending on condition.Mine actually froze up,and took off the truck and you can feel the bearing dragging or grinding not removed from the pulley. The clutch has zero effect on the ps just idle speed and or rpms on engine increase or decrease noise.Remove the belt and drive it,then reaccess noise. No ps is not bad I did it for several days waiting on part to fix mine.

You say a belt is wobbly, what does that mean exactly? Seems like a place to start, right there, with that belt.

Like others have said, pull the belts one at a time, ask yourself: is it better, worse, or the same?

ALWAYS fix first what you KNOW is bad

yea ill go ahead and try that out as soon as i can. i dont have the right tools to take the belt off at the moment. ill let you know what i find out!

which one is the ps pulley? is it the top one or the one on the right by the gearbox?
imrjbitch   +1y

as for the belt, its not wobbly any more after i got it tightened.

Did the noise stop after having the belt tightened?

The PS Idler pulley is aseembly 15-940 on this diagrahm. Top left corner is the exploded view. The small black arrow is pointing to it.

so the ps is the one thats adjustable? ok. i got it. ill check it out asap

and no. the noise was still there. but the noise doesnt happen right away, the engine has to be warmed up a bit to operating temp.

All the belts are adjustable. The power steering and the AC each use an adjuster idler pulley, and the alternator tightens by rotating it away from the crankshaft pulley. That's the way it is on mine (if I remember right) but I'm not going outside to look.
