That's right Cusser, the alternate "pivots" on a long bolt at the bottom and is held in place by a 14mm (I think) at the top on a small metal bracket hung from the passenger front of the engine block.

The power steering is adjusted by loosening the large 22mm nut going through the PS idler pulley then turning the long bolt 15-966 (middle center in pic above). Clockwise tightens the PS belt and counter-clockwise loosens it. this action "raises and lowers" 15-932 (upper right center of picture above) - the bolt that goes through the back of the PS idler pulley.

Yeah, Dan, I pencil in the wrench sizes into my service manual, makes it easier the next time.

So far I've been committing them to memory Cusser... If I write them down I'll never remember and always have to look at the damned book for help.



In this picture the idler pulley fits between the large shoulder washer and nut on the large headed bolt . That assembly is moved up and down on the large threaded bolt... The large headed bolt slides up and down on the groove in part number 32-860 (the PS pump bracket).

oohh ok dan. that really helps a lot! this whole time i thought the idler pulley was a pulley in the same belt as the alternator!

so to recap, i should take it apart and inspect the bearing ??

I'd take off the belt, and spin the idler pulley (no need to take apart for that), should feel smooth and turn easily.

i already did that and it was fine to me.. but it still makes the noise

i read on a forum about rx8s and they were talking about lubing up a fork or something for the clutch
pretty sure it doesnt apply to our trucks but the person was describing exactly how the noise was affected by the clutch. jus like in my case :/ idk

Try pushing the clutch in and see if the noise stops.And even sitting at idle push in clutch and in neutral.This might be a bad throw out bearing(aka release bearing) or your pilot bearing.The noise is could come from either and are prone to fail and noise is the typical issue.Unless the internal parts of the trans are worn they can duplicate the noise factor.Do you know how old the clutch and throw out are and or pilot bearing are.If these have lots of miles it could be a likely item to consider and not pointing to this as the real problem.Just thinking outside of your orig post and we may have overlooked this possibility.

DUUUUDDDEE!! I BASICALLY SAID THIS IN MY SECOND POST!! its like a squeaking noise but not really. like idk how to really describe it but its a high pitched noise. behind all of the engine noise. like i can hear it the most when im sitting next to something on the driver side so it could echo. and yes it is mainly affected by the clutch. when i push it in, no matter what, it goes away. but a couple seconds after i let off, it starts the noise again
