OK, whats the motive? You arent doing it for mileage, that you've made clear. I dont think its for the power either. If it were for the power, you wouldnt even consider the carb and header. For the cost of them new, you can swap in a used 302 engine/tranny combo.

Is it for the looks?
v8s always look better. They're more "balanced" looking. Carb in center, headers on each side, distributor in the center. Whereas the 4 banger is lop-sided. Intake on 1 side, exhaust on the other, distributor stickin out crooked on 1 side.

My opinion....dont do the work to the stock engine. Really not worth it. By the time you get it to a measly 150 hp....you spent enough for a 400hp v8. And IF the v8 is EFI...swap the rear end for something with better gears, like 3.73s or less, and get great mileage.

^^^^^^ i agree i wouldn't recomend tring to make the stocker any better if i were doing a swap any ways its a rather pain in the ass to get all that shit off and plugged/ sealed up a good day or so worth of work for your first time through it

carb +5 hp.
full exhaust +7 hp.
E-fan +2 hp.
MSD ign +2 hp.

Thats almost 1g for under 20 hp. Its truly a waste. I got lucky with my 1st cab plus. It was a REALLY powerful engine for a mazda. But, it was still weak and slow.

Leave the bitch stock until you do the swap. Tucking lugs has not a damn thing to do with the engine or emissions. Get ur priorities straight or you'll get too much on the plate at 1 time and get further from what you want.

all i want done is my front closer to the ground. i can't tub the front with all the emissions stuff still intact... that is the only reason i want to remove it. i didnt realize this would become some long drawn out discussion about hp or what i should or shouldn't do. i will eventually do the v8 swap but for right now when my truck has suck low mileage... i'll drive the 2.2 if i can remove the emissions and still drive it then thats cool as well. but
the only reason i want to remove my emissions is that i want to lay my front end closer to the ground. no more no less. i appreciate your interest but you are going wayyyyyyy off kilter with your responses.
i could care less about fuel consumption and mileage... power is not a big deal... i'm happy with my lil 85 ponies i have now....i still might buy a weber /pacesetter header and install it while my 302 is being built up and powedercoated. when i am ready to do my swap i can sell the 2.2 with the weber/pacesetter header and it wil all be cool...
roger...
if you can get me pics of your truck i woul greatly appreciate it.. i'll need to see what exactly i need to cap off for my 2.2 to still run right.
thanks

who were you responding to tweaker?

i keep hearing about removing emissions on a carbed motor what about on a fuel injected one
audioinmotioninc   +1y
the fi motor is ran by a computer which uses all the electrical connections as well as the vacuum lines.....to properly adjust the fuel mixture by what singals it receives from each sensor... so i wouldn't recomend taking it off but on the carb'd motor it just uses the vacuum lines......so you more than likely take the emissions stuff out and it still run decent

ill post pics tomorrow, but i lay whats left of my front cross member on 25 inch tires and live in california with all my stock emissions and vacuum lines in. u just have to start relocating thing and redoing the vacuum lines longer or shorter depending on where u place them. all my stuff is either where the stock battery goes or against the firewall and everything runs by the motor instead of the fender.

my tires are very very close to 28" 27.8" to be exact. i was thinking about going out abd buying a roll of vacuum line and moving everything around... i guess i'll figure it out and see what i can come up with.
