When going from lower RPMs my truck seems to hesitate when you give it gas. And in the morning when its cold and if it wants to die and you try to give it the little gas it needs it sometimes ends up dieing because the fuel doesn't get to it in time.

Not a big problem just wondering what might be causing it to have this problem? Guessing its a carb issue but what could I try to see if it helps?

Thanks,
Zac

Edit: Just wanted to add that I have noticed quite a bit of water coming out of the exhaust... Could this maybe be part of the problem?

(2) Water always comes out the exhaust, as burning gasoline produces mostly water and carbon dioxide. When the exhaust system is cold (for the first few minutes), it's not hot enough for the water vapor to remain as a fas, so it condenses to form liquid water. After a few minutes (and aren't you in Canada?) it should be warmed up enough to where you don't see liquid water any longer. Now, coolant (the ethylene glycol) is less volatile, and will not vaporize as easily, so if one has a bad head gasket or head causing coolant to get into the combustion chambers, that would still be observed.

check and be sure the electric choke is working ok.When u turn switch on to start truck in the am,choke butterfly should close.Until the truck fully warms up,they have a habit of stumbling on accel.Part of the charm of an old truck.Lol.BJ

Ok thanks for the advice I'll take a look at the choke. And as for the water I knew water is normal but it seemed a bit excessive and I had to replace a muffler cause it rotted out so it seemed like it may have been a problem. I'll just keep my eye on it.

Thanks guys.

So I checked the choke the other morning and it seemed fine.. Today while I was driving I noticed my truck suddenly started idling extremely high! It is idling around 2500 RPM and no matter what will NOT blip down. It drives more or less normal but while at idle or even just with the clutch in and coasting it is up around that and will not go below it.

Any ideas as to what this problem might be? Fast idle solenoid?

Thanks! I really need this fixed asap because it is almost undrivable right now.

Edit: So I just went and took a look at it again... Th choke plate while the truck is warm is about on a 45 degree angle... NOT closed. So from this I think it is definitely a choke problem. The bi-metallic spring wire on the alternator is still on and has not changed.

Is there any way I can just disable the choke so I can at least drive it? Its not cold here anymore so even just if I could disable ti for this weekend it would be a great help. I need to be able to go to work lol.

All you have to do is adjust the choke so it's wide open after the truck is warm. Which carb do you have?

On the 38DGES you just loosen a couple of screws on the choke and rotate the whole choke coil until the plate is where you want it.

Its a 91 B2200. I am not sure which carb it has.. Doesn't it have to be closed or all the way up like horizontally for it to be turned off or is it all the way down? When I put the plate all the way down or open the idle does not change. When it is closer to being closed off completely the revs do go down a bit but the choke will not close completely. I am not sure if I got this backwards..

Thanks for the help I'm gonna go take a look and see if I think I can rotate it so its off.

So once again with my engine completely cold this morning I went out and the choke plate was on like a 45 deg. angle again. I floored the gas without it running and it closed off completely. I then started it and it moved right back down to about a 45 deg. angle.

Does the choke operate on vacuum lines too or is it just all electric? Anyone have a pic of what the electric choke is, I may have a spare and might be able to replace it.

Bump. I really need help with this problem... I can't even drive my truck now.. Please if anyone knows anything about these chokes please let me know. Even if you have a description of what it looks like or where it is it would be a start. If you can answer any questions from my last few posts it would be a great help.
