Any details on this kit? I am heading up there in about 15 minutes. Is it a pain in the winter in Canada?

Ask the guy at the parts counter , there will be 4 kits with different length cable

Its called a Deluxe hand choke conversion kit .

well at least u know what the problem is.since the electric choke is energized by the alternator and the alternator was crapped out, obviously it wasnt putting the correct current into the choke whuch caused all the performance issues.Get a good alternator.BJ

Well thats the thing when I tested the alternator it was the new one that I put on and it isn't really coming out with good results just jumping around all over the place so it must not be the alternator.

I bought a mechanical choke conversion and also a bunch of carb cleaner and silicone spray that is on there now. THe cleaning and lube didn't effect the problem at all. To me it looks like it is still a problem of the choke not getting the right voltage from the alternator but what would cause this considering both of the alternators did it?

Problem solved!

I'm not sure what did it but I'd probably attribute it to my hours of tinkering. Anywho it now idles around 8-900 and definately idles much smoother than before.

Thanks everyone!

So just an update; truck is running great! Much better than even before the big problem happened. I would bet that now my truck would even get respectable mileage; which it didn't before.

Thanks for all the help guys and definitely anyone with carb problems start by giving the entire thing a good clean and lube all the linkages. I think that is partly what made it run so smoothly.

So I was getting about 300km to a full tank (like 60 liters) which I know is pretty bad for a four banger but I just filled up tonight and I'll keep you posted on the mileage. It better go far with the price of gas now! ($70=60liters!)

Thanks!

Hey Zac, what was the fix? Mechanical choke or new alternator? I got the same symptoms as you. The lubing doesn't help.
