I pulled the head off of my 84 after I found a couple plugs soaked in oil. Needless to say I found a chunk missing between the #1 and #2. I'm having trouble locating a new head or even one from a salvage yard.
So my questions are, What are my options with the head for this?
Will the head off of any other years mount on with minimal change or effort?
Would it be easier to find a different engine (4cyl only) and drop it in?
If so, what engines out of what vehicles?
Can the original drivetrain handle these other engines?

I tried to search but couldn't find the answers I was looking for

dude check out fordcouriercollector.com and ask your questions there.. you have the 2.l or the 1.8.. i have aq 73 with a 1.8.. you can shove almost anything in these things... im puting in a 2.3 turbo in shortly.. my 1.8 is old a needs work and its so drastically under powered

if your looking for a head.. check out eslinger engineering.. might be pricey.. but they are there.. and a 1.8l head and a 2.0l head are the same..

the 84s came with either a 2.2 or a 2.0 more than likely you have the 2.0, the 2.2s are diesel engines.

now as far as getting one, i have no idea where you would be able to find one. other than a junkyard and then get it rebuilt. but like you said, you are having a hard time finding one. so check out i had mine fully rebuilt with a 3 angle valve job, got it decked, new valve seals, and a bunch of other stuff checked out all for 150 bucks. there is a local junkyard here that has 2 2.0s there, if it is worth it to you and if i can find the time i may be able to go get one for you but it is very hard for me to find time to do anything. i have 3 kids, nuf said. hahaha.

What are the salvage yard names? Phone numbers?
I understand you have kids so I wouldn't ask you to go out and get one. I'm curious what they'd charge for em.
The ones I'm finding at salvage yards are somewhat of a distance away. I'd like to make sure they don't have a chunk out of them like mine does.

Also, how hard is it to drop in a 2.0 or a 2.2 from a newer year? 85+
If I looked at this what all would need to swap as well?
Transmission?
PCM of course
Fuel Pump?

Also, Maztang, I've been readin every one of your posts, Yours and Slammed83
I love your trucks.

The best advice I will give you is.

Nothing is interchangable from the 86-93 mazdas to ours bub.

When I say nothing I mean NOTHING! lol. Except wheels?

Thanks for the comment. Seems like there's alot more popping up everywere if you got any questions gimme a yell.

the place i go to is called budget pick and pull in belton, tx. their phone number is 254-939-6700 and they are open 7 days a week.they are a self service junk yard but i am sure that if you call them and tell them where you are located they will pull a head for you. they are always pulling parts for other people anyway, mainly engines and trannies and stuff like that but because of where you are located they should help. also, check out that website man, there should be something on there.

as far as swapping something from a newer year model, they are not interchangeable but if could be done, however i do not suggest doing it. the 83 and 84 engine are way stronger than the 86-93 2.0 and 2.2 imo. i have overheated my 83 twice, and put it through hell, and it never really tore anything up. where as you overheat an 86-93 1 time and your done. i have a lot of experience with both generations and i love the little engines in the 83s and 84s.

and thanks for the coment man. appreciate it.

Has anybody delt with ATK engines/heads?
They say they make a head for these, havent called to confirm it yet or the cost. But a new one would just be tits

haven't dealt with them but i doubt they make a brand new head for it. it is probably a rebuilt head which is fine if done right. did you check out car-part.com? there are a ton of heads on there for these year models that have been rebuilt. call some of them up and see what kind of warranties they have. i will also say this, these engine are pretty damn strong. i personally wouldn't do a swap, especially if you care about gas milage. if you don't care about milage and want more power than listen to at dusk and go to fordcouriercollector.com there are a lot of guys on there that have done swaps.
