HELP MAGNUM Engine???

ok we picked up a b2000 with a magnum engine

what is a magnum engine seems i remember some talk of them awhile back ....any info would be great

86-87 JDM Magnum engines were produced in very limited quantities and were not exported to US of A.Some made it to Aus. and a few to Canada. 2000 cc's,8.5 :1 comp ratio, Domed pistons,suposedly some had shot peened rods and heavy duty cranks but Ive never been able to verify this.Magnum valve cover.If it really is a Magnum engine and not just a 2000 with a Magnum valve cover the pistons are the proof of the puddin and it is one rare bird.Hang onto it.BJ

Bumpety -bing-bong.Is the Valve cover plain aluminum or is it coated?The original Magnum covers were some sort of flat black coating with white wire looms.???BJ

the valve cover is not coated ill snap a pic when i get home and post it...

ok i guess i need to know how to tell if its infact a magnum engine without tearing it down????..markings #'s????

I will look again tonite,but unless u had access to Maz JDM build records and serial numbers.it would be hard to know unless u pulled the head.Basically they were beefed up 2000 engines and were installed in some Bseries as well as the Bongo Friendee vans that also were not exported to the US ofA. Stock 2000 pistons are flat-topped,2200s are concave and the Magnums were domed or convex to raise compression ratios. I would love to have a set of those pistons.BJ

im hoping its a real engine and not just a valve cover we got the truck for 400 bucks guy said he thought it had a bad headgasket cause it would use about a cup of water every few hours of running

found out it was just a bad freeze plug

id say 400 is still pretty good...everyone here thinks their truck is the shit, the cheapest i found was 500 and it was a piece

i hear ya i paid 400 for my truck and havent touched the engine im in it about 1500 now
