ok so theres a couple threads here about the fe3 swap but no single question and answer thread so i figured i'll start one

anyone have a diagram for the wiring?
ANSWER: a haynes manual for the b-series and kia wiring diagram help in the swap the only connections into the dawg will be for gauges

the sportage bellhousing be used?
i heard about drilling a hole for a sensor?
ANSWER: a hole can easily be drilled into the bellhousing the b-series bellhousing is used

question: what does it take to swap an fe3 into a 2600
ANSWER: so far i understand there are two options either swap in a complete 2200 drivetrain or find a bongo van bellhousing. finding a way to keep the 2600 running gear is ideal because of its strength.

question: what parts are used from a 2200?
ANSWER: the oil pan, oil pick-up, and engine mounts. the 2600 will need a few more things (see above)

I have been looking for info on this swap also. This is a good idea for a thread. As far as the bell housing goes, I believe you use the mazda one and drill the hole in it. Also I have heard that you use all the kia wiring, but I don't know what happens when you get to the guages and stuff. If I do the swap, I am looking to just run the stock kia motor. No big performance upgrades or anything like that.

I like this thread. Let's get some more info on this swap. I would like to do this swap next summer after I bag the b.
Yes You will have to use the mazda bellhousing as tre5 says you will have to drill a hole in the bellhousing.
As for the wiring, Just wire it up to the stock mazda gauge and few other places.

ok, first things first, and don't quote me on everything I type. I am also looking into it eventually, the swap that is. From what I know is that yes you will have to use the stock tranny and it will mount right up to the FE3 engine, BUT it has to be a B2200 transmission not the B2600 tranny. As far as gauges go, everything should work the same with the stock tachometer and speedometer and fuel and oil and temp. You may have to find another spot to hook or extend the wire going from the tach to the coil. The speedometer is hooked to the transmission, so no big deal there. Same thing with the fuel sending unit, it sends the signal to the gauge directly, and the oil pressure? well you can just splice the stock wire or it might directly hook up to the oil pressure sending unit on the side of the block. Everything for the dash is going thru the harness coming out of the driver's side of the truck, Including the horn and AC. The harness on the passenger side is for your ecu and a few of those wires go to your windshield wipers. I hope that helps a bit.

will a 2200 or 2000 bell housing bolt to a 2600 transmission?

so the complete kia harness is used the only changes are the splices for the gauges?

im gonna really document this swap when i do, almost a step by step how to....
so im guessing im the first to do this swap in a 2600i?

I don't think so, the input shafts are of different diameter, and length.....it may, but I wouldn't count on it....it would be nice to use the 26k tranny as they are the stronger
of the two, and should be able to hold up to any performance mods that you may
decide to throw at the kia engine....

Theres lots of good fe3 info over on mx6.com. Look under the first gen mx-6 section and theres a fe-dohc section.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention that you would also need to swap your tranny ad drive shaft if you have a b2600. the housing of a b2200 will NOT bolt on to B2600 Tranny.

ok so everyone says swap the engine mounts for the 2200 engine and the oil pan so i will need those too?

will the 2200 tranny mount in the truck will i need a different tranny mount?

and this has two driveshafts cause its an extended cab which will i need? the intermediate shaft (the one before the bearing)

anything else?

anyone have these parts for cheap?

You will need a B2200 tranny and a b2200 tranny mount. It should bolt up to the crossmember, I don't think they are different. yes you need a b2200 oil pan and you may have to use the b2200 oil pick up as well (easy pull it out when you get the oil pan)

The driveshaft is a two piece drive shaft, you just get the whole thing, not just the front as in some cases the u joint are the pressed in type and I doubt someone is goin to just sell you the front piece. I don't know if the B2600 has the same rear end as that of the b2200, so you're going to have to check on that, if so then you're set.
