It would take a little time and some $$ to hunt one down, but you'll save a ton of headache if you import a bell housing from a bongo van. It will let you bolt the fe3 right up to the 2600 tranny. Then you get to keep your driveshaft and rear too. The 2600 tranny and rear are completely different from the 2200 and quite a bit stronger. Bottom line, swapping them out would be a lot of work for a weaker drivetrain in the end.

I'm pretty sure the bongos were available in japan, aus, and nz. Not sure about europe.

yea I'm gonna document this swap when it gets done I'm looking for all the parts now its not so easy to swap into the 2600 cause of the bellhousing...what would it take to make an adapter? I'm in a manufacturing class would i have to machine down the bellhouse then just make the adapter plate? this might be easier for me...cause someone said just get a bongo bellhouse so y not just make an adapter? will the fe3 fit to the 2600 tranny if i do go through and do all this? then all i need is 2200 engine mounts and oil pan hmmmm anyone got answers???

feel free to ask questions too as we get info im gonna start editing the first post will valuable info

Well I know that the 1.8 and 2.0 Bongo / E-2000 (gas) engine bolts straight up to the B2000 and B2200 trannys (I've got a bongo engine in my truck) -

As far as the 2.5 diesel bongo tranny bell housing....I'm not sure if it is the same bolt configuration as the B2000 / B2200 trannys.

Not that the Kia engine is going to turn your B2000 / B2200 tranny into applesauce with all of it's extra "power". Check out Jim's ride...he's got a badass truck with an FE3. He told me his truck used to be a B2600 also. I'm pretty sure he's using a B2200 tranny. He's got a video of him burning out and ripping around a parking lot. Seems as if the tranny holds up.

Alright, I'm no expert in anything, but I agree with the posting above me. The B2200 tranny should be able to handle the FE3 block, unless one is to make it stronger or place a turbo in there. But you can always do a transmission swap down the road.

The stock B2200-B2000 tranny will bolt right up to the FE3 block.
I currently have a Miata tranny in my truck, IMO it's way better than the stock tranny. A big improvement over the stock tranny and lowers your rpms in 5th gear. To achive the swap I more or less swaped the bellhousing and the tailhousing and some minor stuff inside like the shifter feet and the speedometer gear. it's a 4 hour project, 6 hour max (after cleaning etc)

If you want a better tranny, go that route, and find a cheap but in good condition 93-97 miata trannsmission.(I paid $150 for mine, but expect to pay around $450 on average) As far as rear end goes, you can always play with that down the road.

I have the same bongo style head and intake (12 valve with the front housing which places the distributor in the stock location, that is the front) which I will place in my current project build in the near future. But I have to loacte the front housing for the distributor itself since I accidentally lost it. I can't do anything with it until I get the front housing for the head.

Because of that reason I might just skip the 12 valve head project and go for the FE3 engine first.

If you guys havent read this yet, you need to

our goal is to actually use the 2600 running gear because its stronger. even more so cause we plan on turboing and power adders. i think im just going to machine down the bellhousing some and make an adapter.

Look, it's simple, that tranny input shaft will not fit even if you machine the bellhousing, They are different diameter shafts, get it?
That B2600 tranny is the same as that of the type II RX7 tranny but the RX7 tranny is better geared, specially if you plan on adding all those extra ponies. anyhow, if you COULD make the B2600 tranny fit, at least upgrade to the RX7 tranny. Because even though the B2600 stock tranny is better and stronger than that of the stock B2200...It is still stock and not geared for performance. My 2 cents.

ok but someone earlier said if i use the bongo van bell housing it would let me use the 2600 tranny with the fe3 was i lied too?
