Ya, everything I read sais its da lifters... I wonder if some Lucas will help! I will give that a try... maybe some Synthetic Oil... it lubricates better and sticks longer than conventional.

2.0's are mechanicle lifters

Whats the difference in the 2.0 cam vs 2.2 cam grnd? are the torque curve the same?

It's the lifters the oil drains back over night and the lifters take a while to pump back up if you get a real loud tick in the morning try shutting the truck off and turning it back on it seems to help. I run 10w40 conventional and my lifter tick seems to get quieter with thicker oil. Lucas stabilizer also helps.

I am gonna give the Lucas a try! Thanks!

Mazda released a service bulletin about this.

To minimize loss of oil prime to the lifters, the vehicle must use an oil filter that has an anti-drainback valve.

If you don't know what this is, go to the dealer and buy a factory filter, which is designed to address this issue.

If you still have problems with lifter noise after installing a factory filter, there may be other issues.

But do the simple thing first.

yeah, I guess sometimes pointing out the posted solution results in problems to those that dismiss it

"I am not doubting you on the Mazda oil and filter but, that sounds weird"

never said the solution wasnt legit, just said it sounded weird... oddly enough it worked! It was your delivery with the "nuff said" that tweaked a nerve and made me want to jump through the computer ... regardless, thanks for the help! My Maz sounds like the well tuned machine that she is.

I read up on the Fram filter and it has the anti-drain back valve in it as does the K&N so, I dont know if it was the OEM filter or the lighter oil (5w30) that I put in that did it.
