Cool build Mike!

Your S-10 looked great also......yeah, that's a HEI (High Energy Ignition) distributor and they were originally used in the GM cars starting around 1974 believe it or not.....I have noticed that a lot of companies are making them these days for other makes of engines. I like them a lot.....I put one on my 1969 GTO and it made a lot of difference in the idle quality and performance I think.
Here I was detailing the engine a bit, and you can see the white rotor on the HEI in the rear.

With the 302's dist. up front you don't have the problems that the GM cars do with the dist. crammed up into the firewall!

Nice build, and keep posting it up!

I would advise against wrapping the headers as they will rust in short order.

Instead I would send them out to be heat coated. I use a place in Ga. that does a great job {I can't think of the name just now}, but what you want is the highest heat rated coating they have, and tell them to coat the inside, and out of the headers.

Very nice looking engine!

Thanks guys. Yeah I think I'm really going to like this HEI distributor. I'll probably have to get a different air filter though because damn this thing is big!

I have read a lot of reviews saying the same about heat wrap. I'll look into that heat coated stuff. Sounds like a much better bet.

No work on the truck the past couple weekends. I've been remodeling the bathroom at home.

Sorry for the long delay. I hadn't worked on the truck in probably over a month. Just finished working out of town for 18 weeks and I was remodeling our bathroom on the weekends for the past month.

Anyway, I took the T5 tranny to a shop to have it inspected and the cover put back on... just as my luck would have it he said a couple of the gears were shot and the shift forks needed new pads. Fixed it up for me, but charged me what I bought it for off of Craigslist.. ugh. I just wanted it fixed properly so I don't have to mess with it again.

Installed the new HEI distributor

And I worked on patching a few rust holes. One on each side of the cab by the front fenders, and one on the floor of the drivers side cab. I still need to seam seal it, but it should be good to go now. No more water leaks in the cab when it rains.

Got a little work done on the truck yesterday.

Seam sealer on the patches. I just gobbed it on there.

Scuffed up the firewall and brake lines... getting ready to spray it with Raptor bed liner.

Removed the headliner in preparation for the ragtop. Although, I have NO idea how I am going to put a new headliner in there.

hey ..
there's a guy in Oxford PA in s.e. pa my friend used to redo his headliner in his dime. altho between the two trucks they're same size wise but the difference is that the mazda liner is vinyl with metal suports accross. I Will ask my friend if he can cruise by and get a email and phone # for the guy . he redid my friends liner that we suppled for like $75.00 i think. but you may have to make a pattern of the inside roof with cardboard to send him to get your liner .

I did the liner in my S10 myself. It was super easy to use 3M spray adhesive and glue tweed to the foam board.
As you said, the Mazda is a bit different with the vinyl and 3 metal rods. I'd like to find a foam board liner from another truck that is close to the size of the Mazda, then somehow attach that in there.

Got some work done on the truck this weekend!

Sprayed the firewall with bedliner (UPOL Raptor)

Put the ragtop in. Pretty scary cutting a hole in the roof! lol

Need to mess with a little more to see if I can get it to latch tight and stay closed. Not very happy with the handle that came with it. And it does not seem very weatherproof, but the truck will not see much rain (hopefully) so the majority of the time the top will be open.

Well a little update from over the weekend. I replaced the bolts on the ragtop frame with some black button style ones. Much cleaner look.

And I finished painting the front frame horns. So I think the engine bay is officially ready to drop the engine in. Now it's just a matter of finding an available Saturday or Sunday and getting a couple buddies to come over and help! lol
