So no change by location, as in it advances as soon as you hook it up, or hooking up the advance doesn't make a difference on idle?

Does it also "advance" if you simply plug all vacuum lines? I'm wondering if the vacuum advance isn't really advancing, but if the engine has a vacuum leak until you "plug" it by hooking up the distributor, and the carb is just set to high for idling.

i have a Weber progressive carb so all vacuum lines are blocked off on intake only using on vacuum line from carb to vacuum advance

she lives!! so the problem turned out to be the distributor was 1 tooth out.. now to change drive shaft carrier barring and gas tank and off to get it inspected.

does it lay out all the way?

i had same issue with my isuzu year or so ago, fought it and fought it, turned out that the distributor wasnt placed just right...
glad it was something easy

i have changed carrier bearings on other trucks in my drive way, depending on your skill level, you should be able to...
with that being said, i havent messed with a mazda one
