There will be an AOD going in, but the things designed on the wrong side on this truck.

A/C on drivers side
Pwr steering pump on pass. side
Alternator on drivers side
Shift linkage on pass. side
Battery on drivers side
Radiator overflow tank on pass. side

I would like to hear more about the Supra tranny. What kind of bellhousing did you use, as well as what starter, what year Supra?

Last do you think the Supra 6 speed is the same as the 5 speed your using, as far as bolting up the bellhousing?...........thanks.

Hello fellow MADAZ community

First the diff is a B2000 case and I got a company here in New Zealand called Diffs r Us to install all the internals from a Mitsi L300 van it was the cheapest option for strength and to have both wheels throw out smoke prob could change ratio to drop revs down abit in top gear but not urgently needed

The Supra 5 speed gear box is a W58 out of a 89 Supra 3.0 twin turbo but this type of W58 is very hard to find but a standard W58 out of a non turbo is still very strong and can handle a great deal of thrashing ive been looking for a spare box out of a twin turbo for about a year now and they get brought as soon as they are advertised
The bell housing is of a 92 Ford Falcon V8 (Australia and New Zealand car ) with a adaptor plate made up to mate bell housing to gear box and added a medium type race clutch for drivability and a short shift kit the starter motor is of a Ford Falcon aswell and as far as I know the W58 and the 6 speed gear box which I think is a V160 are totally different but with a adaptor plate anything can be fitted I guess
Hope ive answered your questions and happy MADAZ trucking to all

Just wanted to let you know because I did do this swap.

Pwr steering pump on pass. side:
**You can get the pump and brackets to mount it on the driver side, then you just need to change the nut on the end that goes into the steering box

Alternator on drivers side:
** Again, there are 5.0 that have the alternator on the pass. side, I suspect you need the accessories and serp belt setup from a 89-93 5.0 mustang.

Shift linkage on pass. side:
**I used the cable setup from LOKAR, not one problem, I used their flexible dipstick tube too.

Battery on drivers side:
**Just get the battery mount from a B2200, goes on the pass. side

Radiator overflow tank on pass. side

Real easy to solve.

My plan for the power steering is to delete the cross tube and just connect the Ford pwr steering pump hoses to the Mazda steering box. I'll move the battery to the passenger side, alternator goes on the passenger side. I'd very much like to see how you did the shift linkage, do you have any pics of the setup? Also if you did the air conditioning I would love to see how you did that. I have a Ford bracket for A/C on the driver side, I am hoping this will work (or that I can adapt it to work with the Mazda A/C compressor).

Just came across this project. I've completed my 302 swap in a bagged Mazda. Check out my project thread in my sig for details.

But a few things I'd like to chime in on:
I used 87-93 fox body Mustang motor mounts. I have no idea which was driver and passenger side. I flipped them around a couple times and did what I felt fit best. I used the stock Mazda frame mounts, just had to drill out the slotted hole bigger. I used power performance polyurethane mounts and there is no difference in convertible or hard-top mounts...

I used a stock 88' Mazda B2200 rear-end, but had it shortened 2" (to clear wheels from bedsides) and an 84-85 RX7 LSD differential. I had a custom 1-piece driveshaft made using a mustang yoke on one end, mazda flange on the other.

I used a T-5 transmission and converted it to hydro so I could keep the same setup that the Mazda originally used. Granted, I needed a new (larger) clutch master cylinder.

My truck had manual steering to begin with, so I stuck with that and removed the power steering stuff off the 5.0 motor.

I relocated my battery closer toward the front passenger headlight. It was already on the passenger side though. I only had to relocate it for wheel clearance issues because I was bagged.

I used an 87-93 mustang 2 sump oil pan. I still had to modify the engine crossmember.

If I had to do it all over again, I would have used the Ford motor sports shorty water-pump and re-did my whole serpentine pulley system. It allows for about another 1.5-2" of clearance between the radiator. Speaking of radiator, I used an 87-93 mustang rad.

There is a nice how-to on Mini truckin' online for this swap. It helped me a bit along the way. Good luck!

Thanks for the tips, I would love to see some detail pics of your engine bay, to see how much clearance you got for the water pump / pulleys / fan /radiator. I did click on your build, but holy epic thread - 47 pages!

Any suggestion on the pump / pulley I should use? I need to go to the junkyard anyway and knowing which vehicles have the snuggest belt drive system up front could be a big help. The one I have (84 Cougar) is possibly one of the worst, it has dual v-belt pulleys and also has a serpentine belt, so its out there a good ways.

I literally only have about an 1/8-1/4" between the water pump and the radiator. You may be able to set the engine back closer to the firewall though.
Yeah, my thread is pretty long, but most of the beginning is bagging stuff, and the end is paint stuff. Lots of pictures that could be helpful though.

The ford motorsports shorty pump I think came in the 93-94 mustangs only. My alternator, pump, and crank are off a 96' F150, but like I said, it sticks out about 1.5" further than the ford motorsports one.
Honestly, you'd probably have better luck buying new than trying to find one in a junkyard.
I run a custom belt setup because I wasn't using the smog, A/C, or power steering pulleys. I just measured the size belt I needed and went on Summit's website to get a catalog number. No idea what kind of car it's for.

Well certainly you have a fan somewhere in between the radiator and the water pump right?

I'm going to just dig through Fords with small block V8's using my tape measure and see which one has the tightest clearance and then snag all the brackets off it.
