That pic you posted is not a spoke wheel. Those are slotted wheels. They were called slotted wheels back when they came out 30 plus years ago. But I will explain.

The number of lugs most certainly does make a difference in the number of spokes on most actual spoke wheels. Here are a few examples. This first one is a 5 lug and has 5 actual spokes...

This second one has 6 lugs and therefore 6 spokes...

And finally this last one has 8 lugs and 8 spokes...

thread post photo

Now I can probably do a quick Google search and find 4 lug wheels with 4 spokes, 7 lug wheels with 7 spokes etc.

The number of spokes does not always correspond to the number of spokes. It depends on the center hub style of the wheel. The wheels I want to run are similar to the top two photos in that the spokes run in between the lugs. So in this case the number of lugs determines the number of spokes.

I also like that the factory truck is 6 lug and the factory spare is 6 lug. I want to keep some factory items like the spare, the jack and crank.

Here are two of the same wheel. The first is the twisted vista 5.

thread post photo

And the next one is the twisted vista 6.

thread post photo

Now understand that rolling down a street real low and real slow the curve of these wheels while rolling gives a twisting look. More spokes looks like more twisting.

ok now I get what you are talking about. it just how that manufacturer does it.
vsawmike   +1y
Yep, that style of wheel has the hub like that it just makes the spokes come out from between each lug nut.

It's a small detail I know but one I can make easily right now. I can run any rearend I want. I want disc without having to add it to a drum rearend. I did that to the courier/mazda rearend I had before. I used Trooper and rodeo parts and fabbed mounts.

I can run stock Mazda spindles up front or if I went 5 lug I could run Toyota spindles. Since I have a choice I can get the 6 lug easily right now since I do not have the rearend I want in the truck already.

Ok, here is an update.

I was looking for another cab so I could have the doors and the door frames. I found this guy on the Facebook Mazda parts page. He has a wrecked 92 B2600i. I bought the cab with both doors and one fender for $150.

The engine was still there. He said he bought it like that and the engine ran but the water pump was locked up. So it may or may not be a good engine. Guy is In Ft Worth Texas if anyone needs anything from it. It has a manual trans.

I got what I needed for my project so we move forward. Next step is to strip this cab and cut out the door frames. Anyone needs any of the interior pieces just let me know.

I also have the reg cab 1990 truck I bought. B2200 with an auto trans. Here is a pic of the interior.

thread post photo

Any of this stuff is for sale. I basically needed this truck for the body (sheet metal) the seats and the title.

Yesterday I did some measuring of the 3 factory cabs I have to know where the lines are. I will be doing a CAD drawing as I start to design the truck. I have decided that I will need this truck to be 4 doors. But I will need 4 doors just to make the back 2.

This means I also need door frames thus the reason for the extra cab. I really need to nail down the length of the cab area so I can determine the frame length.

Today I am going to have my nephew take the new cab apart. I will have him pull everything off the cab that will come off. Any of you guys need any of these pieces just let me know. Email me at

When I get the cab stripped I will cut the door frames out. Probably have to add some 1" square tube bracing before cutting them out.

More to come.

I just had my son and his cousin strip the cab I just bought. So now I can cut it up and also sell the extra stuff. I will post some pics here over the weekend.

I have to do some research at the wrecking yard again this weekend. Plus I see that Pick N Pull just got two more B series.

Well I finally got tired of looking at this extra cab in my front yard. I also finally got a day to mess with it.

So I dragged it over into the driveway with the help of my son Casey and his Cousin Kris. We flipped it back onto its bottom so its right side up once again. Then I got out the stuff I would need to deal with this thing.

I mainly just bought it for the door frames and the doors. But I decided to save the windshield and the roof just in case I change my mind about the end result of this thing. I cut some steel bar (1/2" square tube) to brace the door frame. I dont need it to keep it from flexing or twisting just from getting wider or narrower. This will all become clear as we move to installing the sides.

The next thing I did was to cut the roof across the top above the glass with enough metal left in case I need to shape it into something. I then cut out the B piller and then I cut the C pillar.

thread post photo

I next cut the cowl area out and down the center. I also cut along the front of the door jamb area. I then cut the roof completely off.

Now its starting to look like a project. Even though I am not using most of this. So I cut the windshield frame off and saved the piece and the roof.

I then cut the cab down the center and made it much lighter.

thread post photo

So the scrap pile got larger and I finally have this eyesore out of the front yard.

thread post photo

So basically this is what I am saving.

thread post photo

And these are all I really needed from that cab along with the doors. I am using the truck in this pic and these pieces. Mostly just the body from this truck though.

thread post photo

So now I have everything I need to make most of the body. I can certainly do the cab and bed with what I have. The next step is to make the final decision on body length. This will determine how long the cab ends up being. This will also determine how long the main frame rails need to be.

Then I can cut the main frame rails and start making the frame itself. I have decided on using Mazda front suspension geometry and mounting locations. I wont be using the stock steering box but rather a rack.

I have also decided on wheel size and what rearend to use so now all thats left to do is start making the frame. The body will come together as it goes.

More to come.

Also, this means I now have mucho parts for sale. Including the following:

B2200 engine

auto trans

power steering box.

front suspension pieces.

fuel tank

exhaust

all cab interior parts (no seats)

Pretty much anything else that I do not need.

Let me know if you guys need any of this. The ex cab had gray plastic interior. I still have all that including the door panels. They are in bad shape but they do have the piece that comes over the top of the door.
