I have a bagged 92 b2200 on 17inch eskies.. motor is rebuilt about 15k ago, a/c good, brand new webber, a pace header n both cats removed. It's my daily driver. I'm having to commute about 75 miles 5days a wk to take my son to school the weeks I have him. About 60 of those miles are highway. What can I do to try n get better miles to the gallon? Seems like I'm getting about 18 mpg with the ac on. It's killing my pockets. I was thinkng about trying leaner jets for the carb but I'd like to see if anyone knows of something else or what u think about the leaner jets. Thanks for reading.

I get about 19 mpg, both before and after the rebuild, 1988 B2200 Cab Plus with Weber, had the truck 18 years now. Your tires are big. I'm in Arizona, so realistically the AC is on 10 months a year here. Sure, I'd like better gas mileage, but figure that there's only so much I can do.

I'm going to start tracking mileage on my '98 Frontier reg. cab, my daughter says it does 26 mpg, and I'm going to use that on out-of-town trips (it's 50% more hp than the B2200 too).

Well I went out back in 11 to replace my daily bought new in 87 b2200 and got a new civic.Granted you will not buy new,but a good used civic or corrolla etc will better suit your cost over the truck. In short needed a newer ride for daily stuff plus it had been 24 years since my last vehicle purchase literally. And keep the wear off my truck!

Thanks guys. @ cusser. Yea I'd love to get a hybrid. But its out of my reach for right now. I was trying to see if there were any tricks to try n get better mileage on the truck.

@ 87forever. Buying an eg or ek civic is going to be in the near future.

Any thoughts on trying leaner jets?

idk know about the leaner jets
but i would like to know what you guys do when driving these that gets you such bad mileage
the lowest i have seen out of mine was 20 and that was pulling my boat lol
i usually get between 24-28 and i do use the ac just not all the time
most of my commute is 55mph highway so that may be it, but i venture into town alot.

even with the 255/60/15's i used to run it still got 20 something

@ un4givn85.. I don't know man. I baby the truck pretty good. My speedo cable broke a while back and I haven't replaced it but on the highway I ride it at like 3.1-3.5rpm. I'm thinkng that's about 60-65mph. I'd be super happy with 24-28mpgs

My 87 2.0 is all stock for now! Gets 24 if I baby n stay out of mountains!

heck I didn't think 24 was so great! but when compared to my diesel I'll take it all day long! , glad you guys posted getting mid 20s !

So I'm starting to think that the 2.0 gets better mpgs than the 2.2.. everybody posting mid 20s mpgs have 2.0s and the ones around 18 mpgs are 2.2..
This week I'm going to work on that leaner jet and see how much it'll improve. (Without hurting my motor) ill let you guys know how it goes
