still must disagree, just because the two uppers share a common end, does not a three link make. the wishbone design almost exactly emulates our traditionally used triangulated four link geometry. by definition, if there is a technical one somewhere, a three link is not triangulated and requires the use of a lateral locator bar. by the same token, you "could" call it a two link with a control arm, wouldn't make it "correct". whole thing is blue on black to me, but i still say the triangulation makes it a four link.
And I will still call it a 3-link. They use the same setup on 4wd trucks out back for the same reason I used mine. Those guys have 4-link geometry down better than most minitruckers.
agreed on the 4x guys. but my point is how do you triangulate with three pieces. it's technically three physical pieces, but, this is giving me a headache. if you took the upper to a saw and split it down the middle, bolted it back in, what would you call it? everybody and their mama calls the kp setup a six link, because thats what kp named it. Soooo, do the rear two have a damn thing to do with axle location, no. so its really a four link right? just like a parallel four link with a panhard isn't a five link, but thats what it gets called. same with everybody calling a mechanical advantage/lever setup a cantilever incorrectly. call it what you wanna call it, and i'm not knocking your truck or you/your fab skills, just because it counts up to three, to me anyway, does not automatically = 3.
I would consider it a triangulated 3-link. If I cut it down, I would have a 3-link that would not center my axle.
Look at the similar setup that SD offers. They call it a 5-link, because it physically has 5 link bars.
panhards and suspension bars are not counted in a multilink system. but then again, sd is for/run by minitruckers, and they make it, so they can call it what they wanna call it i guess. and i guess if yours in offset, it wouldnt locate the axle, a non-offset wishbone would still locate the axle if halved. thats about enough of this for me... you win...
wat the hell is a panhard i have heard bout it but i dont know wat it is anyone have any pics
its a link bar that attaches to the axle and runs paralel with it and connects to the frame and doesnt let the axle move side to side.
OH YEAH!! well i can clamp a bic pen on my workbench and spin a big chrome wheel centercap on it!! Ha! Take that! (I think its called a 1 link) LOL J/K Guys.... Seth, KDC, you guys rock!! dont kill each other though... you say tomatoe i say tomoto..
sorry, bored at work and extremely entertained by this thread... but i do remember a HUGE article in minitruckin magazine a few years back( im sure someone has it) about this same subject- and yes, they dammed the reverse 4 link, and said it was wrong and to only do it if you really wanna die! They said it had very adverse effects on roll-and-pitch, along with bad braking side effects...all kind of bs.
but hell, if it goes Front-Back-side-to-side....WHO CARES!!?? Im running a flipped monoleaf for gods sake!! LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
Props to ALL!!
L8R!!
They did an article about 4-link geometry a couple months ago, it was really good. It went over a lot of stuff most minitruckers dont take into consideration, such as roll center, anti-squat, and even oversteer. They didnt go into detail on reverse setups, just said not to do them.
wow, you both have a great amount of knowledge and am extremely impressed, for this stuff, i am glad i know slammeds1091, lol without him i would be lost on most this stuff, lol i do his audio he does my suspension!! lol its how it goes. i am sorry for starting the arguement but in reality i am glad i did, i learned a lot about the whole thing, i am still knew to a lot of this airbag stuff, i had juice on my harchback before and in my eyes way different, anyway!! have a good one
