The civic uses what is called a twist beam axle. The axle is a solid beam, but inside of the axle is basically a sway bar. The trailing arms connect to the inner sway bar that twists so it still has articulation. The only bummer is the panhard. I guess if I make it long enough the axle won't shift too much.

^^^ do a watts link. they are easy enough to build. doesnt have to be flashy, just work.

A Watts link is a good idea so I will look into it. But the panhard seems so much easier.

So I've been doing a lot of measuring of different straight axles and they are all pretty much the same width ... 58-59 inches wide.
My Accord is about 62 inches wide at stock height. After all the measuring I've done, it looks like I will still need to narrow the axle because the reason the wheels tuck so far is because of the camber.

The problem is that most of the axles I look at are a U shaped axle with a 3/4 inch bar down the center of the "U"
I don't think the center bar comes out, it looks like it is all welded together.
My question is ... How do I cut it and weld it back together if I can't get to the inside bar? I think even Eclipse axles have that bar down the inside. (I can't tell because all the Eclipses/Talons at the junkyard had the axles in the mud.)

The other option is the 84-87 Civic axle. It is a solid tube with a "torsion" bar inside. This setup gives the Civic axle some articulation which is what I really want.
The torsion bar is removable and I can cut it and weld it back together, but I'm not sure if the welding will hold on something made to twist. It is basically a sway bar ... can you cut a sway bar and have it hold?

I'm driving down to Forbidden Fantasy in March and I want my car laid out without having to worry about chewing up 4 tires, just 2.

I DONT UNDERSTAND YOUR PROBLEM. CUT THE AXLE TO THE RIGHT WIDTH, WELD & REINFORCE IT BACK TOGETHER (WHATEVER SHAP IT IS), THEN DO A 4 LINK OR EVEN POSSIBLY A 2 LINK TO HOLD THE AXLE IN PLACE & RUN YOUR BAGS OR JUICE. I DONT UNDERSTAND WHERE THE TORSION COMES INTO PLAY.

I want to keep the stock trailing arms (just extended) and use the factory mounts. I want to keep this as simple as possible.
I also don't want to move the gas tank if at all possible.
