go slow and keep a damp cloth with you to keep the temp low. and be careful on the grinding too, you can warp em w/ the grinder!

i like to use compressed air to cool it, but i might do about 3-4 tacks in as far apart places as posible then cool it till its cold not warm, and as far as grinding goes.... ive learned the hard was that will warp shit fasted then a weld lol, i also use the same method grind for a moment then cool till cold.... use flap discs they be bad ass

for the warp you can try to heat the area with a torch then shock it with cold water to bring it back up, ive never tried this but my buddy told me about him doing that, he is a union sheet metal finisher and works only with stainless tho

i do a small tack every 2 inches and go back and fill in the rest of the metal with small wleds in differnet areas so i don`t build heat and wrap metal
using a blow gun to cool it off works good too

Go slow. Use small tack welds spaced apart. Feel the surrounding metal as you go. It will take a while. If its too hot to touch, go to the other side and do that handle while the first one cool. Like they said above, you can warp them with the grinder too. Break out the hammer and dolly to tame those waves...
