we're using ekstensive bag mounts on our '00 gmc fullsize and we've been havin some major problems with them. last year, the bag mount on the front driver pushed a hole through the frame and bent up like a bill of a baseball cap. then the passenger one started doing it a couple of months ago. now while i was under the truck today, i noticed the bag mounts in the rear were starting to do the same thing...why the hell is this happening??? has anyone else had this problem?

you wouldn't happen to have any pics of this would you? it would help alot.

nope....no pics...the bag mount is a single gusett bag mount just welded to the side of the frame...basically imagine the mount slicing through the frame...the welds holding the mount to the from havent broke, but the frame is torn around the area.

the spring perch is all still there in the front...the bag mount is welded directly to the frame itself in the front. and the bottom cup is just the same ones you can call up and order from ekstensive.

i was looking at the KP components to front bag brackets has anyone used or heard good things about the kit. I was thinking of trying them out becuase it save me a ton of money and probably time.

maybe when you were welding, you were too hot and possibly weakend the metal causeing it to break?

just an idea?

i would just chop them off and get a new set of upper mounts from suicidedoors.com and then weld a piece of 3/16 or 1/4 plate to the frame to beef it up. I would also box it in this area if it isnt already.

dang shoulda just used upper cups in the front, the best thing now would be to cut the brackets off and cut up a piece of 3/16" plate weld that in the area of the bag mount, then mount a new bracket (or old one if you want), then regardless of how it happened now, i know it wouldnt happen again.

I have seen it happen before and it was because the metal was heated up too much during welding and it weakened the metal.
