what i was told about shavin doors

i asked two different bodyshop guys about shavin door handles, and i was told to completely tack-weld up the entire hole to where it is just solid metal,and one of 'em told me no matter what the door will warp, said he's been doin it for years. now i have seen both of their work and its really good. what are your thoughts on this? thanks in advanced for takin the time to read and respond.-late

yep they are right..tack weld until its all solid..and yep..no matter what its gonna warp..nothing u can do about it...

^^^very true warping is a must lol just try keeping it to a minimal

cool the weld with a wet rag after each tac this will minimize warping.

the only goal is to keep the warping as close to the handle as possible... keep it cool and take your time.

not true bro i have welded the handles up with out wrapping them use air to cool each weld and not water

This might not be the best way either cause a weld that cools too fast can also cause warpage. The best is to just do a couple tacks at a time, sit back let it cool and go at it again till its full of tacks all the way around. Even grinding with a flapdisk causes heat and can warp the metal too!

whoever says they can weld doors shut without any warping is lying (unless of course your workin with an old car that has much thicker sheetmetal) ...and another thing..u do know that rapidly cooling hot metal is a really good way to shrink it right?.....

its also a really good way to temper it and make it brittle as hell

ok maybe it will warp a tiny bit but not enough that a little kitty hair will not fix
