I'm sorry that you lost some friends. I know that hurts and makes you angry.
But there is no draft, and, contrary to the bill of goods the moonbats keep trying to sell us, there won't be a draft. Your friends enlisted, of their own free will. They volunteered to at least take the chance of going into harm's way so that terrorism wouldn't reach our shores again.
Greater love hath no man than to lay down his life for another.
They're heroes. It's sad and tragic that they had to be, but this is where we're at.
There's been a lot of debate about the war in Iraq, its justifications, and whether it's worth the cost. I believe that Saddam's wholesale slaughter of his own people (about 300,000 over 20 years) and his financial and intelligence support of international terrorism ($10,000 checks to families of palestinian suicide bombers, 1993 World Trade Center bombing, providing refuge to Abu Nidal and the Achille Lauro head thug) MORE than justify kicking off on his ass.
If you read up on it, you'll find that the current terrorism in Iraq comes from two major sources:
1. Former regime elements, high-ranking members of the Ba'ath Party, who know that a successful democratic government means their eventual capture, trial and hanging, just like what will happen to Saddam.
2. al Qaeda cadre directing a steady stream of expendable brainwashed splodeydopes from Saudi Arabia, Iran, Jordan and Syria. AQ is also fighting for their very survival, because a successful democracy in the heart of the Arab world would spread until their brutal 7th-Century cult of Wahabbi was choked out of existence from within.
I'm getting pretty sick and tired of comparisons between Iraq and Vietnam. In Vietnam, 55,000 U.S. soldiers were killed over a ten year period. That's 5,500 a year. Two and a half years into Iraq, we're at 1,900 casualties. That's about a TENTH of the equivalent.
No, this is more like the occupation of Japan just after WWII. If you research that, you'll find that Allied soldiers and the new Japanese leadership were targeted by insurgents for YEARS.
We occupied both Japan and Germany for nearly a DECADE. How have they been doing since? Would you call THAT failure?
I wouldn't. But the mainstream media and Michael Moore and the rest of the Moore-ons are trying to sell everybody that bill of goods. Don't buy it.
