Whats up everybody, ive been reading the conversion manual for the v8 swap and cant figure out the transmission. I want keep a 4 speed or 5 speed in my truck, but it says not to use the stock transmission and the only one they refer to really, is the camaro t-5, What transmissions are you guys using in you s-10s, im body dropping it to the rocker as well. also in the october issue of sport truck they did a swap and sheetmetaled the whole firewall. I want to shave my firewall completly but i dont know what to do about the brake booster and shit like that, as of right now im getting a smaller one so my 20s will fit but would much rather get rid of the bitch. do they make something so i can still keep power brakes. any help would be appreciated , im ready to tear into the bastard. thanks alot

personally, i'd go with an automatic that way you dont have to worry about the clutch master cylinder being in the way. most people use the TH350 or Th400 turbo tranny.

i wouldnt use a th400, thats a massive tranny to try and squeeze into an S-10. most people use a either a TH350 or a 700R4. the 700 is probably a little stronger if your lookin to be racing. but either of those two would work. as for your brakes i know there is a hydro-boost set-up out there that is small enough where it can be bolted to the frame. i dont remember the company that makes it but some research could help you find it

th350 is stronger than a 700r4 the 700 has overdrive though, if your truck came with a 4.3 you should be able to use the 5spd tranny.

ok sorry if im not replying quickly, im out working on my truck. the motor that i had in it was the 2.5 4 cylinder. the only reason i wanted the 5 speed is because thats all i know. But if you guys are suggesting an automatic thats what i will probaly do, whats all involved in switching it over. im clueless as far as that goes. and thanks about the hydro boost deal, i will look that up when i get a chance , sounds like a good alternative. thanks again for your comments.

Hey I am doing this to mine right now!!!! What I did was cut out the whole firewall with the exception of a strip where the brake booster and steering shaft comes through, and I worked from there out and tubbed it out to what looks like could clear a 22 but I am using a booster off of a box blazer so unless they make a 22x8 I'm out of luck (LOL).I have a 350 that is mated to a 700r4. No probs whatsoever....but you will have to buy the lockup kit from Painless if you so happen to get a trans with a lockup torque conv....otherwise you'll mess up the trans! You didnt say what year s-10 but I am assuming it's a box....I have a 96 Hombre and all I had to do was have my driveshaft shortened almost three inches and I didn't even have to change the yoke because both the stock 5 spd for my year and a 700r4 have the same number of splines on the output shaft....Hope this helps...any other ques. email me...
