who really has rules on what a rat rod really is, thanks for all the people who said congrats, and the paint is not primer, its all factory, the body has never been touched. i just figured a rat rod was building a hot rod the cheapest way possible, gathering parts using what u have laying around, doing some trading for this and that, i dont know why that f-100 would win its not ugly and why spend a butt load of money to have it chopped and channeled, its supposed to be cheap and fun, and like i said before those are the only wheeld that we had to put on it so thats what went on the red wheels and white walls are comming dont worry, here is a vid of the truck....

Rat Rod is a accepted term created by people who dont know. Hardcore hotrod builders of this era would be offended to say the least. It is exactly like calling mini truckers, lowriders or mexican. Its gay! foresure. And your explanation of a cheap build is sorta on track with the theme. except for your shiny new exhaust and wheels. If you your proud of your truck thats all that matters.

All three of those above cars are traditional. None are rats. All of them are just different types of hot rodding.

Rat Rod is a new term... back in the day they were simply called "Hot Rods". My grandfather used to race on dry lake beds in California and he says that the rat rod term is something new cause his rusted 32 Ford was simply a "hot rod".

I found this on a bulletin board a while back and liked it so much I kept the quote:

"Rat Rod... Product of a fertile mind, empty pockets, recycled parts and desire to ride!"

A good definition of all the rod era vehicles can be read at: www.honolulustreetsmagazine.com/autoshop.html

I don't care if anyone calls it a rat, or a rod, or a kustom, but I'm building the Comet using only parts that would have been available to somebody in the 60s, with the exception of the air suspension (I had to make at least ONE concession to modern living!!).
Honestly, though, I think the concept of "rat rod" is to use what's available in your (and your buddies') garage to build a hot rod. If those chrome wheels were lying around, then technically they're more "rat-rod" than the Wheel Vintiques wheels I went out and purchased, right?
Anyway, congrats on the trophy- that truck is going to look great when it's done!
