REAL CARS dont shine

The terms street rod and hot rod have as much to do with money invested as gassers and taildraggers. Its not the money that went into something that makes it a street rod or a hot rod, its what the final product looks like.

I would also have to say that the term rat rod really needs to go away. 95% of the time people use it to describe well-built traditional cars that are patinaed. I myself believe that a rat rod describes so-called "death rods" that are poorly designed and built and would simply crumple at any speed of an impact.

Im right there with J.R' s grandpa. I still race up at El Mirage and have been up there for the last 22 yrs. The rat rod turm is a new turm and most of the roders that I talk to dont like the term much. These are the guys that where around and racing up there before WWII, and still today.

Seth knows what's up!!!! you said everything that i was, haha. all the trendy people say "rat rod" but the die hard enthusiasts still call them hot rods and that is exactly what they are. you can tell who is a real fan of hot rods versus the people on the bandwagon just by the shit that they build.

in the beginning of hot rodding, the guys built with the budget they had and what they could find, which some of them looked like shit pretty much, and that's what a lot of people are doing these days.

heres my dads 32 ford 5 window built on a 55 chevy chassis the newest part is a 67 impala rear end but the car has been driven from beaumont to the other side of houston and back every year and to other shows but this was built back in the early 70s but its has parts from a 40 ford truck hood, but we have redid alot of it because rats ate up all the wiring but hes not scared to climb off in it and head out because it was built to drive and not to worry about bein keyed or what not but he took 2nd place at a rat rod show but he was beat by a all glass coupe that was built out of a kit

theres nothing rat rod about it, its a barn beater with nice wheels, but you certainly dont have dubs on a rat rod, theres no chop top suicide doors or even massive shifter
