shortening the spindle is going to give more drop without the balljoint binding. If your talking about getting less lift....its not that much of a difference.

what process do you guys use to weld the spindles? are you certified?

from the small pics it looks like they just setioned them and MIG welded some plate around it.

set the campbell hausfield welder on "high" and went to town

They are preheated and welded back together with machinable nickel rod and buried for a few hours to cool slow. Same process is used for the plating and we have also been careful to keep everything aligned. Sorry for the small pics, i have no clue how to make them bigger.

WHAT IS THE PREHEAT METHOD YOU USE IS IT TORCHED OR PUT IN A OVEN AND GRADUALLY HEATED UP?
