no, you switch the RX7 bellhousing to the B2200 truck trans. The rotary motor has a unique bellhousing pattern because of its shape.

You can use the RX trans and it will take the truck driveshaft yoke, but the shifter will be between the seats.

Most guys THINK the B2000/B2200 trans will bolt up because the clutch parts and slave cylinder interchange. That is just the clutch and slave cylinder though, the trans have different bellhousings and need to be switched.

man, thats what im saying, since he is starting with the 2600 he will still need the 2000/2200 trans to bolt to the rotary bellhousing. his trans wont bolt to it.

no, thats still not right, the 2600i trans is the same stronger trans used in the rx7 turbo, and best of all has a bolt on bellhousing, so you could get an rx7 turbo bellhousing and bolt it right to the B2600i truck trans to finish your rotary swap instead of having a transmission shop do the tedious task of swapping the B2200 truck tailshaft and gear guts to a N/A rx7 bellhousing which does NOT unbolt. You could try to do it yourself, but having the right tools to keep everything together and the luck of having it come out right seems like worth the cost to me. The tailshaft is really what you need to keep, because it locates the shifter.

There are only two different kinds of RWD Mazda transmissions, and the rx7 used both in different forms.

gotcha now russ-d, didnt realize that. so what about the auto b2600i tranny, is there anything compatible with it??? i mean, engine wise that will bolt right to it using the stock converter, flexplate, and starter??? oops, end post jack. you can PM me.

I think the B2600i auto tranny is all one piece, and that only fits the G block.

Russ-

What about this-

If you have a 4x4 b2600, and you want to bolt in a b2200 motor, but retain the 4x4, can the bell housings be swapped?

Also are the b2600 and b2600i's a differnet bell housing? I know the carb early b2600's are different than the b2600i fuel injected mitsubishi crap motors.

It's all the same trans though- right? You would just have to pull the whole tranny apart to swap the bell housings right. Then you could retain 4x4.

Or will the transfer case fit onto a b2200 trans?

I dont think you can swap the B2600i guts to a B2200 bellhousing, or vice versa. I know you can use just the turbo 5th gear in a B2200 trans though, or at least thats what I heard. So maybe the whole thing would swap over.

Dear god a 4x4 B2200, that would have 30 or 40 dazzling hp after all the driveline losses.

russ- how about an fe3 b2600 4x4?
