I would like to see some pictures of bracing on cars. I'm in the process of cutting the roof off my '95 taurus. I currently have a piece of 2x2 box steel running down under the doors on the underside of the car. I figure some sort of strut tower bar would be in order as well. Anyone have any ideas?

Does anyone know of any cars with the tops hacked off on SSM?

Dave- take a look at my Taurus wagon. If you cut long rectangles in the floor and put 2x3 pieces in and weld them in it would be stiff enough. I drew mine up to do it like that but cut the whole floor out and did full frame and bodydrop instead.

Gavin, That thing is simply rediculious. I checked it out quite a long time back, but didn't realize you'd made such progress on it, namely putting a frame under it! Do you have any pictures of the retangles your talking about? Its definately badass!

I dont have any pics of it but I will try and describe it. Basically, cut a 2x3 11gauge at least, the length of the car from the firewall to trunk. Lay it in the car and trace the outline onto the floor. It will be kinda hard since the floor is not flat but you can use best judgement to make the outline. Cut the floor out where you traced with a sawzall, cutting wheel plasma or whatever you have that will make a clean cut. Once you have it cut, insert the 2x3 into the hole and get it level. You will have high and low spots where you will have to stack 2x3 on top of 2x3 to get every part of the floor full. Then once you have your brace made, weld it into the floor. I would start with 2 full length braces on each side and go from there. Remember, you dont want it to hang down to far and you dont want it to stick up to high in the car so try and get it as evenly spaced as possible. Then last but not least, once you've decided its sturdy enough, cut the freakin top off!

Hope that helps!
