Ok, i got under the burb the other night to try to tack back the muffler that fell down last time i drove it and i saw this:

twisted shock mount that is very uneven from the other one (and notice no nut on the bolt on the far side)

hole between the step notch and the frame

valves mounted on top bag bracket (also, anyone know if a slam re8 will fit here? i think it's a re7)

step notch not boxed in on bottom

can't really see it, but one of the shock mount tabs is broken

and this is how well my back doors line up after weatherstripping (had none when i got it, so every time it rained, it poured into the back of the cab)

So how worried should i be? Should i not drive it at all until all this gets fixed? Or will it be ok to go to town and back (a few miles at most) until i can get it on a rack and fix it? I don't want to endanger myself or definitely not anyone else on the road. Apparently i drove it like this from Salt Lake City to Cheyenne, and from Tulsa to Atkins, so it's gotta be at least kinda ok, right? What do you guys think?

Aren't you supposed to look under a truck before you buy it? Lol.

Personally, I would park it. You have kids right? Don't risk leaving them without a father figure.

what chicken did the welding on that. cause i see a whole lot of pock marks. looks like whoever did it forgot to turn the gas on. but you answered your own question about driveing it. you drove it all that way. but i don't know how much more id drive it.. but hey now you know, you can beef it up and fix things. i'm sure you can get that thing back on the road safely. good luck man.
but i remember a certain thread with the new "owner" of this burb freakin out. (lol) because of someone else's shortcuts. so im sure you figured you were in for a ride. good luck man you'll get it going safely.

dammit. yeah, that's what i was thinking. I was hoping to be able to drive this while i put the dime back together, guess i'll have to deal with this first. I knew what i should do, i just needed a kick in the ass, lol. Dave, you're right, i knew on the way back it was going to be a lot more work than i wanted, but i guess that's why i got it so cheap. Oh well, here we go. No one answered the question about the bags, though, can i fit re8's in there? And does anyone know if i can fit re8's on the front? I can take pics of the front if anyone can tell from pics, or how do i measure it (width wise, that is). Does anyone know where i can get just the bottoms of the 8 piece step notches? Or should i just completely re-notch it? Dammit again.

amongst everything i've seen in these pics, I noticed a hanger....nuff said.

I would take the buss instead... for the back door I would just take a small body hammer and hit the weatherstripping in a bit and see if that made a difference.. or move the latch, it could be wrong..

The welds look pretty scary. I know you posted about the valves being mounted directly on top of the bags.....there's nothing wrong with that. I installed mine like that. Never had a problem with them, except them being to fast, both up and down.

As far as the shock mount goes I would check all the link bars to make sure they are all in good shape and attached securly. Also its possible that it could have hit something because of how low it is. It looks like some pretty good welding on it too, lol. Make sure that the shock isn't maxing out at full lift pulling that "mount" forward. In the second pic fix the hole and trim off the rest of the notch, lol. Third pic, sorry I don't know if RE8's will fit. Fourth pic, please box in the notch because some other lazy ass hack didn't. They could have aleast used some rattle can black under there. Fifth pic, fix the broken shock tab, box in that gaping hole in the cross member on the right side of the pic, and remove coat hanger, lol. Pic six and seven, could be the latch as stated above or it could be because the frame is so hacked up that the body is sagging and the doors won't line up. I'd fix it first, no need to chance it if you've made it this far. Good luck!
