I'm looking at getting a chop saw, but not sure what is good/what isn't. I want a dewalt and I have found a 5.5 horse, 15 amp, 14 inch "heavy duty" saw. (http://www.tylertool.com/dwheavdut14c.html)

Is this a good saw?

Also, where should I look for one if HD and Lowes can't match a shipped price. Northern Tool?

Great saw, cuts damn near anything. Dewalt that is

dake makes an awesome cold saw but it's three phase and about $2.5k...look for one that runs at a lower rpm and get blade made for metal...HF has a kickass deal on for a horizontal metal bandsaw for like $129...not coolant fed but some spray coolant woould work...might wanna look into it

I have the HF bandsaw. It cuts nice, and straight if you put a quality blade in it (Lenox) but its too slow for 2x3 mitre cuts. So, I bought a chop saw for this purpose alone.

I bought a Milwaukee, just this week. Mostly I stick with Milwaukee because I like them, and most of my other tools are Milwaukee. I bought the heavy duty version, with the cast base. I've used them with the sheetmetal stamped base before, and it flexes. I got my Milwaukee on eBay, for $195 shipped, with one blade. Couldn't even find one locally, but they all could order it, for $275-350 depending on where I went.

Then by one of these.

seth, that link doesnt work for me. neither does bulletinindustries.com is it my computer?

I was looking at the Milwaukee but wasn't sure how it did against the Dewalt. It's a few bucks cheaper if it's the one you say you have. Link is below.

Maybe its your computer. I just tried the link and it works. But is basically a carbide tipped metal cutting blade, with 100 teeth, by Bullet Industries. Google it, it should work.

i really like milwaukee chop saws and dewalt discs for it.... i think that HF bandsaw mentioned is a piece of crap, all of those small bandsaws are junk that use the big portaband like blade.... i'd step up a couple hundred bucks and get a grizzly bandsaw from msc, they are very nice for home shops....

milwaukee FTW. Mine is from the 70's. works good for being that old, it is about time to replace it though. Seth, how long do those carbide tiped blades last?

I have the big dewalt chop saw. Had it for 7 or so years with no problems, love it.
