tubing questions?

hey guys, was wondering what thickness tubing u guys were using for ur bridge work when mountin the bags on upper bars? im having trouble finding some DOM and was wondering if regular tubing would fine? planning on using 3/16 wall in either the DOM or the tubing with the seams. let me know

I dont think I would use schedule 40 (seamed tube) if you are mounting bags on it. I used thick wall DOM on my "bridge" for the front hydros, over kill is better than not enough. If you do use the schedule 40 put extra braceing in there. run the link bars like an upside down triangle using the tubeing as the bottom (top if flipped upside down) of the triangle and the braceing being the two sides of the triangle. then in the middle of it run a gusset from the point of the triangle to the middle of the tubeing. That way it will not bend or collapse on ya. Hope that helps

yeh i get what ur saying. i actually ran across some DOM about 5 minutes after i posted this. 3/16 wall should be plenty strong shouldnt it? i think tensil strength on that is like 150,000 psi correct?

Seamed tubing is strong enough for anything on a minitruck, especially 3/16 or 1/4 wall. Tensile strength measures the stress required to pull something to the point where it breaks.

oh my bad, u think 1 1/4x 3/16 will be ok on the back of a 85 chevy c10?

You're not going to bend that. I use .120 wall at the thickest.

why is that too thick?

well im fine with it being a little overkill. rather have too much than not enough. u know? besides i got a pretty good deal on it. i saw on pro tools website where it says that .134 was the thickest wall it can bend and if i remember correctly 3/16 is like .180 correct?

Yea no problem wit a lil over kill...im not sure about the decimal conversion of 3/16 guess i shoulda paid more attention in math class
