Im into lifting weights. But a few of my joints cant handle what Ive put them through over the years. So lately Ive ended up doing more cardio than weight training.

Russell your making some good progress do you mix any cardio or weight training in with your diet? Splitting your meals into 4-6 smaller meals, also not eating past 5 or 6pm helps.

i havent done anything fancy. i just cut down to eating 2500 calories a day. i added it up one day and i was eating a lil over 5000cals a day. im doing very, very, very, little cardio. just cutting back on cals is doing the trick for now. when it warms up around here ill start riding my bike more often. also, on the eating ive cut out coke, beer, fast food, and not eating around 3hrs before bedtime. i wanna get down to my goal weight before i start on the weights. i wanna get down to 200lbs, was 220lbs, but its so easy to lose so far so i said what the hell. ill shoot for 200lbs. im at 233 as of this morning. so just 33lbs to go! what sucks is, im going to Spring Fling this weekend, ill probably throw back a couple of beers while im there. oh well! i also take one "fuck off" day a week as i call it to eat whatever i want, that way i dont go crazy not eating any good stuff.

The only thing i do sorta healthy is I haven't had a coke in almost 2 years now.. Well, that's if you don't count the crown and cokes It's either water or sweet tea. But I have cut out a lot of snack crap also.

dont forget you need carbs to function.... you just need to take in complex carbs and not crappy ones found in sugars and white rice and potatoes and common pastas, etc.... i am now a strict vegetarian (i dont call myself vegan because i still wear leather boots and other animal products) but i dont eat any types of animal flesh or by products.... the hardest part of it is the fact that nearly everything (even health and nutrition products) have some type of fish oil, or milk whey, egg substance in them...... i dont do much weight lifting, im more into calisthetics, and fighting arts.....

russell doesnt do anything, so he is losing alot of muscle mass, but he is shooting for #s....

dude, ive got muscle mass out the ying yang. not joking or having a big head here but im a pretty solidly built dude. me at 200lbs will look a lot healthier and muscle toned than you at 200lbs Cris. and yes i just wanna get the weight off and am concerned about the numbers. not going full blown healthy like Cristina. id go insane if so.

well what im saying russell is that by eating the wrong foods and just trying to maintain a calorie count, and not exercising, you are burning muscle mass away too, and that weighs alot more than fat.... but it sounds like you are doing like what i did, when i hit 260lbs, i figured 40 lbs would do the trick, then i figured 200 even would hit the nail on the head, now im just shooting for bodyfat %....

and while ive got a second, i heard someone say something about sweeteners.... i am guilty of consuming sucralose myself, trying to stay away from HFCS and crystalline fructose (found in my used to be favorite beverages vitaminwater and vitaminenergy), but after reading alot on artificial sweeteners, i try to just have alittle normal sugar if i have to (gotta indulge in sweet tea from time to time), and have been searching for stevia, its a natural sweetener made from a plant.... ive heard alot of bad things about all the artificial sweeteners.....

your body doesnt process the artificial ones from what i understand. you do process natural ones. either way, no sugar is "good" sugar. You get enough by eating fruit and stuff.

I have cut out bread, cokes, and shit like that. Ive lost a bit, no clue on numbers. I am not worried about numbers, just feeling/looking better....which I do already, so I am getting there. It's hard to do it, but it works quickly if your a heavy person. If you eat right, you will drop it rather quickly.

I actually have a coffee from einstein and somtimes a muffin or coffee cake and it seems to not do anything as long as i drink a lot of water. I go through about 60-80oz a day in water.

breads are fine if you eat the right ones... when choosing ingredients that use flour, find whole wheat, like natures own makes a nice one that has no sugar added and no artificial ingredients... i like ronzoni's healthy harvest pastas, kashi cereals and snack bars.... i make some sweet waffles with whole wheat flour, soy milk, and egg substitute, topped with honey....

oh yea and if you love peanut butter, smuckers makes a nice natural peanut butter.... rule of thumb, if you have to stir its probably good for you.... dont be scared of the high fat content, its good fats, which you need to survive, but like everything, in moderation....

Keep up the good work guys, its always awesome to hear of people losing weight and makin themselves healthier. I'm on the other end of the conversation though, I can't gain weight hardly at all. I mean I've put on about 30lbs of muscle in 5 years but I would expect more with working out 5-6 days a week. I'm a health freak though and want to be in some sort of competition some day. I'm only 22 so the slower metabolism will hopefully hit me sometime in the next few years so i can get a good 210-220lbs.

haha if i was looking for a # i'd like to get to 175 (195 now) at least so when i compete in bjj tournaments i can just cut a few lbs and fight in the 155-174 class.....
