i too think w/ gas prices @ OMG, food @ WTF and basically the enire cost of living at HOLY_SHIT - we will see minis built more economically friendly!(thanks craig-lol).
*IE, 15-16"" rims, basic interiors and engine mods to raise fuel mileage. i think we will see alot more 4 bangers being used instead of big crated v8s. also, trailers wont be used as much, again, because of fuel being at the price of life itself!
i too would like to see a "green" mini (not the color- you know earth frinedly!) a hybrid, flexfuel... hell, maybe even full battery. Boyd (RIP) did it on the sobe wagon. i think one of us should do it to a mini! -know of any wrecked hybrids? HA!
on a side note: face it guys- we are in a recession and things arent looking that great for our country much less our "sport"! vote smart this year guys (and gals)!
i agree with you also Lucky..but I dont understand (i am probably goin to get smashed) why everyone keeps hollering this recession crap...we would even be thinking of a recession if it wasnt for the main stream media like bsnbc and cnn...i for one am in the boat trailer industry and we are still goin strong like nothing is even happening and we are talking 60k bass boats here..just my 2 cents
Not here to "smash" but sometimes the view from your fish bowl, isn't allways the same as other points of views. I live in the highest area of foreclosure in the us, as well as the hardest place to both work and live in. I'm also in construction, and the trickle down of the housing market buble burst, watching 95% of the other crews in our town cutting down 75% of thier employees is evident when they walk in 5-10 at a time asking for jobs. Gas here is also 3.60 for 87 at the cheapest station.
I'm not saying it's this bad everywhere, just that it's pretty bad for alot of us out west, cost of living out here is no joke.
Back to the subject, i think "old school" is going to come and go how "rat rod" style came and went. My only issue with it is, when does it become a benchmark, instead of a crutch? Point being, alot of the guys who tried the "rat rod" style, you could almost tell it was an excuse to half ass something their ride,(primer/scalops, steel rims and done). If there is going to be an oldschool revival, it would be nice to see the same guys attempt big mods (chops, full shaves w/ decent mods, sections, real imagination) along with the old styling. Just so it's not used as a cop-out to put chrome fender trim, old rims, and a static drop, and call it done.
I think if people raise the bar it can last, if it's used as a quick fix to not finish something, it will go as fast as it came. personally i'd just like to see more imagination, less fear to be different than everyone else. How many times can we build boydster versions of a minitruck before it gets old?
