This is why i give customers an hourly quote and post daily progress along with a monthly email to them. You let them know where your at, how much money your up to and it keeps this shit from happening. They run out of money, you move to the next job.
So instead of doing half up front and half when its finished you bill hourly and that keeps you from laying down shitty welds, just kidding, lol. No matter how I bill I throw down a good weld no matter what, lol!
