After my 3+ year saga on a brand new truck, I'm convinced there isn't one honest or decent paint, body, or suspension shop in all of New Jersey!

IF there is, PLEASE let me know!!

It sucks having to pay twice, sometimes three times to fix the last guys fuck up!

In Jersey hit up www.haggardfab.com

A certification is just like a degree from a tech school. Its nothing unless the person paid attention, studied and has the common sense to start with.

Well fuck answering my question, LOL.

Would like to hear what some of the shop owners here would suggest.

Go on Judge Judy or Joe brown, they will clear shit up!

are you certified welder ?(

I agree with everything you said except this. I weld better than 90% of the 'ticketed' guys at my work, and I'm self taught. I've seen some certified guys build some pretty sketchy stuff because all they can do is weld. Welding is one thing, engineering and actual fabrication skills are another.

Under that same light, why not get certified then? You yourself know you can weld better than those who are, it should be easy to achieve, and if anything, just one more thing to add to the resume? To the laymen who doesn't know any better, who walks into your shop, is he going to know weather those certified guys are any better than you? But if you ask him who he wants to weld on his truck, chances are he'll choose them, just because that's the way people think.

yeah for sure. The majority of guys that are certified went to school and got it through there. I didnt go to school to learn how to weld. I went to learn stuff that I couldnt teach myself. But now I'm working a job where I may be able to at least get my mig ticket. But I'm not a welder there so I'm just waiting to talk to the Welding Bureau guy next time he's in, because I might need a certain number of hours as well. Not sure how it all works. If I can just do the test pieces and get a ticket then there's no reason I wouldnt.

I had to get certified to get insured. Was an easy test, but costs me $100 and I have to do it every year.

Doesn't mean a damn thing to me.

In MI you have to get re-certified every year also.

Whats the actual test for the certification? Is it just the chamfered blocks with multiple passes?
