Hey John sorry to hear it happened to you. Seems like they always happen to run out those that have the least ability to act like a robot. I would know. Times are hard now but as everyone has said already, you'll probably land on your feet. Your father's words ring true.

As for the constant struggle between who everyone thinks is the enemy in the publishing world, keep in mind it's all corporate business and like any business they are interested in the bottom line. In this case better for us is not always better for them if you can understand that. The corporate view of the world is tunnel vision with dollar signs hanging at the end. That is why companies like AIM, Chassis Tech, Street Ride Pro, Truckin Suspension, and every other entity that J. Morrow comes up gets to live on.

As for the comment on how thin the magazines are lately, you can attribute that to our economy and the internet. Magazines work on what's called an add to edit ratio. It takes a certain number of add pages to allow a certain (less) amount of edit pages. People are spending less money right now, businesses are advertising less because of it, and so we arrive at fewer pages in the magazines. The world is going digital and we want our information now, now, now. Not in 2 or 3 months when the magazines can finally get to print. So we as consumers carry a certain amount of blame for the slow demise of the magazines in print.

Not a rant, but just a bit of educational background for many that clearly don't know. John O' will tell you the same.

Now I know why I hated the new streettrucks and didn't buy it. I always look before I buy at the stands and the new one didn't look interesting. Now I know why...
Johnny's articles were always great, made me laugh so much, and even a few of my friends would grab the magazine to read the articles by him even tho their all into lifted trucks. Was awesome to read article in a magazine that isn't all to do w/ trucks but also has to deal w/ the world we live in, and life. Especially sad that they didn't run his last article... Was one heck of an article, and glad he put it up on here for us all to read.

I hate to hear about Johnny O's departure he was the only reason I ever flipped through street trucks. I think the biggest compliment I could ever give him is he shot such a bad ass feature of that black F-150 with the lambo doors that I never said a word about the lambo doors being gay.

He is a very cool kat, and I am sure he is in no way done taking pics this whole thread reads like a obituary. I think he should write his book on trucks that he mentioned to me about five years ago I would definetly buy that.

Times ae changing in the mag industry what companies are paying freelancers have been cut in half, and the budgets for staff travels has been nixed. With the advent of digital photography everyone is now a photographer, and the market gets flooded by hacks who will work for next to nothing. Long live the pics of Johnny O, Brian Mac, Tito, and everyone else who cared more about the guy who built the truck than how much they could get payed for the feature.

Congrats to Johnny O for getting away from the titanic before it hit the iceberg. Look forward to seeing your work on better magazines someday soon

Well here goes... I debated chiming in here for a couple days for obvious reasons but I can't stand by any longer!

Johnny O is single handedly responsible for every good photo that finds its way from my camera into the pages of Mini Truckin'! He's taught me everything I know and even when he worked for the competition he would still help me out if I ever needed it!!! Truly one of the best this industry has ever seen.

Before I got into this biz and was just a reader the only two mags I would buy on the stands were Mini Truckin' and Street Trucks... Like many of you when Tito left I was crushed and cancelled my sub to Street Trucks... Then my boy Johnny O came aboard and breathed some fresh life back into the mag with amazing photos and some of the best stories ever written. First thing i did when I got the mag was flip to the back to his column for a laugh... even when I went through some rough times recently, John was there to lift up my spirits!

He is truly one of my best friends and will always be!!! He'll be missed and I'm not sure that any mag could recover losing such a vital part of their staff!

But on a lighter note, you'll be seeing some of John's amazing work coming your way soon in the pages of Mini Truckin!!! Go out and support your favorite mags and buy them rather than just flipping through them, we all need you now more than ever!!!!

Thanks everyone for your support!
