recently over the last couple of months, my wife & i have been talking about moving to warmer, drier, parts of the country. niether of us feel like going to the humid east cost areas, so the phoenix area keeps coming up. more specifically the glendale area.

what i was wondering is how's the area? crime, drugs, etc...is it a good place to raise our kids? i know any bigger cities have their ups & downs, but tacoma is really a shithole with the gangs & meth, not to mention the 10 months a year of rain & overcast makes it time for us to go move on. it should be easy as hell for me to put in for a transfer at work...

how's the truck & show scene down there. as i cruise the forums we notice a lot of guys from the phoenix area.

thanks in advance guys & any advise (good or bad) would be greatly appreciated...

Its hot as hell for 6 months out of the year, and very nice the other 6 months. Crime and drugs, that just depends on what neighborhood you move into. Truck and show scene is decent, lots of mini shows every weekend in different parts of the valley.
I will be here for life.

Phoenix rocks. During the hot months you can drive 2 hours and be in the pines and enjoying cooler weather. Yes it is hot for 6 months but never do you have to shovel sunshine. Glendale as a whole is great. I am right on the edge of Glendale and Phoenix and schools are good and crime is not bad (minus the egging and kids being kids). There are weekly hangouts that accept mini truckers and once a month the Freaks of Nature has a fun hangout with beer and BBQ up north. The prices of homes are not to bad right now. Good luck and would be nice to see some more peeps come to Phoenix.

P.S. Make sure you make it down by the Bring the Noise show. It is a must not miss show, awesome times.

I Love Phoenix! I was gonna move there a few years back but my mom sold her house and moved to Tennesee. Its bitchin, there is always something to do no matter what your into. Being from washington youll def have to get used to the heat. But I seriously recommend it

there is a lot of crime in phx and glendale.traffic is horriable,I think i would stay in washington if i were you.plus most all people from phx area are rude and arrogant (i.e. road rage)

I live in Glendale and really like it. My suggestion would be to determine where you can find work and get a place close to there...traffic in Phoenix area is getting pretty bad. It's a great time to buy a home here right now with the pricing falling and foreclosures everywhere. If you go a little west of Glendale in Surprise you can get even better prices on homes and that whole area is all new. Good luck...just wait till after October to do the move.

i have lived here for 30 years now. i have lived in phx, peoria, glendale and surprise.they are all great places every were has something some one doesnt like .its a great place to live and i wont be moving. best suggestion is to find a place to work and then figure out a place to live near work cuz traffic can get bad. preferrably stay more to the northern half of the cities.and the diffrence from are cities to the east is you dont really have a drive between the cities ,you could drive between 3 or 4 of them and not even know it.my girl friend moved here from wisconsin a year ago and just went home to visit and couldnt wait to get back to arizona.its a diffrent type of heat and it can be tollerable and there is always some thing to do. good luck on your decision its a great place to be.

My fiance is from Tacoma (T-Town) and we now live in a small town on the very northern outskirts of Phoenix called Anthem. It's an hour to Sedona which is an amazing place (all of northern AZ is cooler-higher elevated), and I work in central Phoenix which is about 35 minutes no traffic. My fiance loves it and she can't get enough sunshine. I also go to California a lot which is only a 5.5 drive to the beach.

Of course you get a lot from Phoenix as you do as any other city like crime, and rednecks...but overall it's very clean, and well planned.

It does get hot as hell, don't get me wrong, but it's a trade off...I'd rather have that than too many gloomy days and shoveling snow.

Lived here all my life. The heat sucks, but its worth it. Winter time i can be in jeans and a t-shirt and take an hour drive and be in the snow. If you like to gamble there are casinos everywhere. If you are into guns its a right to carry state, ie wild west. If you like the bar/club scene Tempe near ASU is crazy. If you ride atv's it is the desert, so options are endless there. Home prices are down, with the economy down and all the forclosures lately. I love the east valley, live in Mesa and work in Tempe. If i go north of Scottsdale once a month its 1 time too many. Truck scene usually dies off in the summer months, but there is still things going on here and there, usually at night.
