as a good spin on this i moved here 2 years ago from new york. my pay doubled from 60k to 120k. the job market good and the city continues to grow which in turns keeps the economy going. gas is resonable and there is nothing like waking up in the morning and having the sun be shining 95% of the time. if you are going to be working on luke afb i would for sure recomend litchfield park. this is a great neighborhood and is 5 mins from luke. plus there are some homes in that region you will be able to get a seperate garage and still have a nice home with a decent sized lot. i understand where your coming from with the land but houses are built far more different than where your from. good luck.

I will never live in another state. AZ has everything a minitrucker could want. Great weather year round, NO RUST, it's on a grid so travel is so simple, the roads and freeways are wide smooth and well lit. It is extremely clean here. The scene is huge. Seriously I don't think people who live here realize how big the scene is compared to other states. you can see more than one bagged vehicle driving around everyday and there are cover/feature trucks at all points of the valley. And there's something custom going on almost every weekend. Just look in the shows and events forum for the past year and see how many times you see "AZ" in the titles. You also have 3 of the top dvd companies from here: Surface, Lowlife and Domination. Not to mention that Cali shows and the beach are just a few hours west and Vegas is a few hours north. I FREAKIN LOVE AZ!

all houses here have attached garages. Older homes will get you more land for, newer homes are built in tight to get more in the area. Unless you move towards the outer areas and find something custom you will not get a seperate garage and lots of land.

Glendale is a great place... I would never live in suprise, its crazy traffic getting in and out of there. If you would like to find a seperated garage your best bet would be the north west glendale area, but that will be a hard find, usually those houses dont get rented. My only advice would be to NOT live in a HOA, they suck so bad and usually the houses are close enough to jump from roof to roof. Your best bet would be to come out for a weekend and stay with one of us natives, get a good idea of the valley. Good luck with the move if you have any questions about the Phoenix area feel free to ask Ive lived here in the north side for 20 of my 27 years.

well, i turned in my paperwork for the interstate transfer today & lady said it could take up to 4 weeks to get approved. so shortly after that i'll start making the plans...

mike, i already planned on taking a week or 2 off after i get approved to go down there & check it out. i get so many sick hours every month, it's built up so much that's no big deal, so me & the wife will be flying out there.

that's why we want to rent for the first little bit...2 weeks isn't long enough to really get a feel for a city i've only been to once (about 10 years ago for like a week). we don't want to buy a place & a year or 2 later say, "shit i wish we lived in, this other town" (surprise, peoria, litchfield park, etc)

thanks again guys for all the input! & hopefully we'll be draggin with you all soon...

sorry for the million questions, but this is a life changing desision, you know...

what are the emission laws there:

1. are they done yearly or every other year like WA (odd year vehicles on odd years & evens on evens)?

2. do they do the fuel cap pressure test? the toy has a fuel cell.

3. how many years old does a vehicle have to be to get exemption status? 20 or 25?

4. if it's a pre-OBD vehicle do they do the sniffer test?

5. what are the regulations if you fail? my toy has 1 seriously built engine & i doubt it will pass.

6. if any of these answers are not to my liking, can i just run WA plates for the next 2 years & register the toy with non-resident status w/o catching crap from the police?

7. does a bagged, cut up frame get you in any crap during the registration process?

8. do you have to go through inspection (other than emissions)?

Also with that being said, how are the cops toward minis?
