AntiVirus XP 2008

Has anyone dealt with this? Its a virus that comes up looking like a Windows update. Anyone had any luck removing it? I was able to manually remove the program and stop the popups, but it is still affecting some aspects of my computer. Its slowed down real bad. When I try to do a Google search to find information about it all the links open in new windows to spyware searches and random websites I've visited before. Trying to upload pictures or reply to certain forums I cannot do. Anything that presses a button really it seems like. This is the only site working for me right now. Can't figure out WTF to do.

id say give webroot spysweeper w/ antivirus a shot, only 30 bucks and i believe its got like the second largest database of spyware/viruses that it protects against

Something else I forgot. I got a good spyware deleting program, paid for and all. I can't get all the way through a scan. It shuts the computer down and I can't stop it. I've tried 4-5 times in the last few days.

try doing the thing where it goes back to the date you select... i think its called system restore. usually works for me.

It disabled all previous backup dates and created a new one an hour after it installed. Its a hell of a virus. My dad looked it up on Google since I can't, and it seems like is a bitch to get rid of. Someone said I may have to format my hard drive, which means I will loose everything I have right now. I can't burn anything onto a CD right now either to save it. Email doesn't work.

I had a similar thing happen to me. I could not go back to an earlier date to restore and I could not clear it with any type of program. I ended up reformatting the hard drive. Now I have an external drive that I save things on in case it happens again. It was very frustrating and it sucked losing control of my computer to something like that. Good luck and if you do beat it let me know how you did it.

Yeah it looks like I will be reformatting the hard drive. Really sucks because it won't let me get anything off the computer. I have so much shit saved on here. All the orders from the past year, tons of pictures, 6k songs. Shitballs.

I had this virus. It popped up on my work computer and like a dumbass I clicked it. I ended up having to send it to my IT dept. I tried all of the tricks and programs but it did only enough to keep me running. If I'm not mistaken he reformatted everything. Dump it all and start clean.

I have dealt with this exact program and can tell you how to remove it if you have not already formatted your drive . I will be in chat for a bit if you still need help

From what I see, this is a root kit...and is quite difficult to remove. Most people would rather just reformat the drive for time
