Correct me if I am wrong,
Optima:
Red top- starting battery/general use....not meant to be discharged and recharged often.
Yellow top-deep cycle. can withstand frequent discharge/recharge. Supposedly good for stereo/compressor battery use.
Blue top- extreme duty deep cycle. Marine use/ extreme off road use??
That said, my red top sucked balls.
It was the only battery in my truck. 2 viar 450's and about 400 watts of stereo. It would not hold a charge at all. Before anyone acuses me of relying on a starting battery, I had a 250 amp alternator, and did not run my accessories with the truck off. My alt should have dealt with the brunt of the load.
When it finally died( and I mean D E A D, steam pouring out of the top ), I switched it for a crappy Wal-Mart battery with the same post configuration( not a gel cell/sealed battery ), and I never had another problem from the truck.
Worse yet, Advance auto where the battery was purchased wouldn't honor the warranty. I couldn't find the receipt( my fault ), but they had no record of the purchase. This seems really weird to me since they seem to have every waranteed part I have ever purchased in their system, any other time I have a problem.
I also had a friend use a yellow top in her USACI car. She had problems with that one as well.
I have no experience with batcap, kinetic, orbital, odysee...etc., but I will try any of those before I ever give Optima my money again.
