he thicker satin blacks, like the rustoleum or whatever from like home depot do you still need to make sure all the bodywork is done, obviously dents but i mean like small scratches or chips. Is this paint thick enuff with a good primer below it to cover ? I've taken care of everything dent wise but some lil spots here or there now that ive primered that i noticed i thought maybe since some of you mentioned some of these "home depot" paints are thicker maybe they'd help to cover these spots. Then again im not sure if satin black paint jobs are supposed to be "perfect" like a clear coat job. Kinda of an idiot when it comes to paint n body

I didn't block my Mitsu completely flat, I just DA'd the majority of it, and left some small chips and small cracks. This is a temporary paint job for me. You can still see the chips and cracks, so no those thick paints won't fill it in. What you DO get out of it, is GREAT coverage in 1 coat, and full coverage in 2 coats. Also instead of finishing all your bodywork in 500, you can finish it in 320 blocked, and probably 240 on a DA without showing any sand scratches. This is with the Imron 2.1 industrial coating I used.  You'd have to test what you choose to use before doing your whole truck in it, and being pissed that sand scratches still show through

the body work ive done so far i've 180'd and its looking good but u can see a spot or 2 here or there. Buddy of mine said to put oat of primer on, 180 it then 3 heavy coats of primer then i should be good to go. Like i said, im not a body guy at all, my buddy and his brother are going to shoot it which ever satin black i choose so they can do the finish work which should be minor. i was just told to get all the dings and bumps out lol. What does everyone recommend, i can get the SEM Hot Rods Black in satin finish thru my work, the whole deal will be about $240. It comes in 1qt set that comes with the hardner and catalyst. Each set is $53. Or just go get some rustoleum and some accetone and go that route ? i just dont want it to fade or chalk up. will prob be this way cpl yrs at most then i'll spray it reg.

also most of my spots that were bad were on the tops of the bed rails and other lil spots, would u guys recommend just 180 the whole truck and use the same primer on all of it? or some finer paper or what ?

from Lone Star Round Up... there were 4 or 5 cars with the smoothest satin paint jobs, but my camera messed up so this is the only one i have.

Any of you that have used the Rustoleum "home depot method" have u had probs with the paint chalking up?..or fading ? For $50-$60 you almost cant pass up the deal for a paint job to look good for a yr or 2. Just dont like the faded or chalking up look.

i think the rustoleum idea is best and cheapest. My question is, what if you want to spray it later with a normal base/clear, can you just rough it and spray or is it something you will have to strip totally first ? Does everyone recommend mineral spirits or accetone to thin it? how do you know when its thin enuff?
