Thats exactly what I was thinking they would do. Cos getting to the flywheel would be major hours.

2 weeks ago I tightened the 2 mounts in the bay as much as possible and it seemed to make a small difference. One seems a bit out of 'line' - it isnt 100% straight? But I cant see any obvious signs of wear. Then there are the mounts below further back, by the gearbox.. those I havent tightened.

This truck is a 1996 model and the mounts definitely havent been touched since date of manufacture so I guess its time.

I really appreciate everyones feedback here.

i have a severe vibration myself when stopped   feels like the harmonic balancers out of balance     i have yet to figure it out myself  motor mounts seem fine  but i plan to replace them anyway  maybe that will solve it   any other suggestions?

unless you have a motor swap that has harmonic balancers on it that couldnt be the case. mazda motors dont have them. Mazda motor mounts look great until you pull the motor or something and they fall apart into 2 pieces. It could also be the tranny mount or some exhaust mount rattling against something. If it cant be easily found when outside of the vehicle when idling it could be the dash or something at a low idle. I would like to check it out for myself but im no where near south africa.

Thanks guys, just letting you know that renewing both engine mounts FIXED THE PROBLEM!!!

might be a good idea to replace the tranny mount now and if your truck has a 2 piece drive shft, check the carrier bearing as well

1. the tranny mount is in the centre right? Transmission mount? And there is only one? 2. What is the carrier bearing?

Yes there should be only one transmission mount. Your truck might not have a carrier bearing. If your truck has a 2 pc driveshaft the carrier bearing is what hold the joint in place where the shafts meet in the middle.    I glad it ended up being a motor mount. Enjoy your vibration free mazda.
