Just thought I would share...

Washington Mutual
1301 Second Ave
Seattle, WA 98101

Attention: Kerry Killinger

Re: Closure of my account.

Mr. Killinger,

The purpose of this letter is to inform you that I am closing my personal checking account with Washington Mutual. I am not in any way naïve enough to believe that this will cause the foundations of your institution to tremble, or that these words will even reach their intended recipient. However, I felt compelled to write this brief letter in hopes that somebody would read it and consider the reason why I am closing my account.

Yesterday, I walked into the Fontana, Ca branch to make a deposit. While I was standing in line, I noticed that several of your Tellers were attempting to help some of your customers, who could not understand English. There was one employee who was bi-lingual who had to walk around to 3 different kiosks and help each individual customer with their transaction, while they continued to monopolize the non-Spanish speaking Teller’s kiosks. What should have been a quick five minute branch visit, ended up taking over twenty minutes.

Ordinarily, I would have brushed this off as yet another cost of our County’s floundering immigration policy. However, as I looked around, I saw countless Washington Mutual advertisements in Spanish, as well as Spanish instructions on my deposit slip, and numerous other objects with the Spanish language printed on them. It’s one thing to have to deal with the consequences of our government’s lack of initiative to deal with this issue. It’s an entirely different thing to not only condone, but exploit these issues for financial gain. Frankly, it insults me.

I am disturbed by the lack of loyalty your bank has shown for our country. I have chosen to turn a blind eye to this issue for some time. Yesterday was my breaking point. I have enjoyed Washington Mutual’s customer service as well as the benefits they have offered to my family over the years. However, it is time for me to move on. I am moving to a smaller, local bank, which understands and shares my sentiment.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. I hope you will consider changing your policies at Washington Mutual.

Sincerely,

Jason Campbell
Apple Valley, California

Well written.

So let me understand this real quick. Are you closing because they have signs in spanish but have no interest in training or making sure their employees can fullfill their jobs when an individual comes in that speaks spanish? Or are you closing because they have signs in spanish?

I'm just trying to figure it out lol
