well i was called upon by a good friend and severed petitioner to rebag and re metal work his 04 (i think) crew cab long bed cummins dually.

plans are; new notch, bridge, gooseneck hitch, x-members, semi-bags over the axel, parallel 4link with watts link. new carrier bearing member, new tranny member, z the front to lay flat, raise the upper arms and possibly new uppers. new bag plates in the front. shocks all around. all set up for a 305/35/24. wheels should be on by the time it rolls out. and stretch the dually fenders as well. all before tex-mex. i hope....

on to the pictures of the bed off and cutting out the junk.

it had what i belive to be a avs y link. it had so much play in every way possible i cant belive it didnt rip the front mounting point off!

these are the lower mounts. they were burned in so hot, and undercut so bad they actually started to rip the frame. alos it was gusseted in the wrong spot!

so we went ahead and cut out all the junk. (notch and bridge) so much perosity in the welds i cant belive it held as long as it did.

cut off the lower mounts on the frame past all stress cracks and fixed the holes.

then made some patchs out of 3/16ths (frame is only 1/8th thick) and welded them in.

thats all i have for today. picking up the 2x4x.250 for the notch and frame extensions that we had to cut out monday. so it should have some good progression this week.

remember this isnt my full time job so i only get to be in the shop 3-4 hours after my full time job and on the weekends.

well, went to the steel yard today. picked up 10' of 2x4x.250, ordered heims for the watts and got some 1.5x.250 dom on the way. so today i just go the frame back together. not done, i have some fishplating, plug welding and finishing grinding and welding but the rails are in. i tryed to get as close to the factory size as possible but no luck. its actually 2.5x5.25x3/16ths is the stock rail. so i cut and pulled in the sides .25 on each side and just added a gussette out of 2x4x.250 under to tie it back together. well on to the progress pics.

before the underside peices

after the peices, gonna do a little grinding and fishplate and plug weld it up.

ill get the notch, x-mamber and possibly fishplates burned in tomorrow. so ill have more pics then. ill update daily.

yup, one of the pics has it in it somewhat. he bought them so i was going to run them in the front of the axel down low, then he wanted to run the fuel tank in the factory location. so i guess there going over the axel now. going to be a monsterous bridge....

heres the update for tonight. not as much as i planed but we remade the notchs. before anyone freaks out there 2x3x.250. the reason i did that is im going to run a peice of .250 plate like a huge gussette in the notch and "hugs" the axel. i think it will look real cool and help a TON in strength. i hate the way 2x4 notchs look. plus i think its going to look awsome. its all getting fishplated. it will be shown tomorrow. on to the pics.

heres the notchs burned in. like i said im still going to add gussettes inside them.

heres the sparkler aftermath

and here are the bags he sent to go on it. there semi sleeve bags. the go from 8.25" compressed to 24" extended.
