man u bolts are crazy high by themselves but you can go to any parts store and buy a 2 or 3 inch block kit with new u bolts for less than 30 bucks...just cut them old u bolts off

Sparky I noticed that you put the Afco 30312 joint directly on the column shaft. I got the same joint but doesn't work. Did you have to modify the joint or the column shaft or both. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

i apologize . i got the number wrong...

the afco u-joint 3/4 48 spline is 30304 ...

i will pull my steering apart tomorrow and see what the hell's going on....i am not sure why i would have posted a part number that i didn't use...

i will go stand in the corner now......

try to get all the codes for the set sparky , i might not need the one at the end (running a ford rack and pinion on the dropmember) but the middle one i prolly would

as for the centre bearing , i know theres a trick for getting a wheelbearing out without help of a press and with the wheel still on the vehicle : get a big screwdriver and tear the balls out of the bearing than take a stickwelder put it on high and weld a wopping thick bead in between the inner and outer race , when the weld cools it puts the races towarth it and you can basicly get it out by hand , maibe it would work with the centre bearing too

That cool i appreciate it. The shaft coming out of my steering column isnt splined or DD. I can make this joint work fine with minor work to the shaft. Just wasnt sure if you had the same prob or not.

what year is your truck? im not sure why yours would only have a shaft with no splines... half ton trucks are like that...

I actually checked on a different column. My dually is a 88. I have a 88 3/4 burban as well and the engine and front clip is off. So I pulled the shaft out between the column and gearbox so I could cut out the DD part of that shaft to use. I would assume that since they are both the same year, tilt, cruise, ect., that they would be the same column. I will put the dually shaft apart and check.

The shaft on the 3/4 ton burban is a rectangle with the tips of the corners rounded off some. Cross measured from corner to corner is 1 inch. I can take a small amount of material off of each corner to get the joint onto the shaft then tighten the set screw and jamb nut against one of the flat sides to hold it. If the dually shaft is the same as the burban I will snap a pic of it.
