i think tou can get away with a dropped filterbase or cut the inside out and put some steetmetal between it and the outside , you dont even have to cut intoo the hood you might even be able to mount a taller filter

think theres a shoppingtrip to arizona for some nice sheetmetal in the future for the fairlane , the car looks like its been in a demelition derby
i know of a belgium guy that travels there regulairy and can look for you and ship it from there to youre place just as whell as he does to europe

change your intake to the correct spread bore then you dont have to use the adapter plate. or mahcine the adaptor plate down, and the intake mounting base.

or if that is all too hightech, drop your motor mounts or use a drop base air cleaner..

i know i need a new intake. . i dont need you to tell me that..(stating the obvious).. i figured that out when i tried to mount the carb for the first time....( hence the adapter plate). if i had the money, i would have bought a new intake ....im poor if you havent noticed...

i wasnt really looking for a solution to the problem... i already figured that out.. ("cut some metal off the bottom of the hood and buy a smaller air cleaner"..)
this beats the hell out of lowering my engine mounts 3/4" just to get my hood to close.. and i couldnt do it anyways. i have a 7 quart oil pan that is already close to the ground. (and im not putting a stock oil pan back on)

if i had the adapter plate milled down. it would defeat the purpose of using it. the adapter wouldnt be tall enough to let the butterflies open and not hit the top of the intake...

send me some of those friends and money you have so much of...... you seem to be able to build 4 trucks to my 1.....( hell, i dont even have 1 yet)

im still here... time sure flies when your having fun......lol

all i do is work and sleep. never any time for the truck...

i found a killer deal on some epoxy/sealer primer. 47 bux for 2 sprayable gallons. cheap....

i threw the old steel gas tank out and bought a brand new rci 20 gallon aluminum fuel cell on ebay.. 150.00 shipped..cheap....

oh yea, i bought a super rare chevrolet tailgate trim section that was perfect with yellow trim paint instead of black. they sell on ebay for 200.00+. i payed 65.00 shipped..... well. the seller didn't correctly pack the trim up right and ups bent it in half...
it's on the way back to the seller...lol and he said." i dont take returns" i told him, "you may think you dont take returns. but ebay says that you do"....lmao
ebay sent me a prepaid shipping return label today.. and i still get my 65.00 refunded after the tracking says its been delvered back to the seller..... yay ebay!

1 aggravated wife and 32 pages later I've managed to read through the entire thread from front to back and i must say....BADASS WORK MAN!!! subscribed! Cant wait to start on my 89 Chevy CCD!

< @ aggrivated wife...

thanks for the compliment bigwil... it definitely aint going to be a show winner. but should be cool to drive around and freak everybody out...

when you get going on your truck. make sure to start a build thread and take lots of pics.. i enjoy looking at other dually build threads on here. gets me motivated to do work to mine....but here lately, i need a fire set under me before i will go do anything...lmao

the transmission leak has been fixed. the plastic speedo gear holder was worn out and missing the inner seal.. i bought a new steel "bullet" off ebay for 7.77 shipped... no more leaks!
i think i may have fixed the brake fluid leak on one of the front calipers. i had to use one of the old banjo washers in between the caliper and the metal part of the brake hose. . it doesnt leak anymore. so im going to call it fixed...lol
to get the truck drivable...all i need to do is bleed the brakes..

then,,,, i have to finish tubbing the bed, and cut some metal out so the driveshaft doesnt hit anything when layed out........
im going to buy a set of steel tubs from summit. they are 100 for a pair shipped...

well... the water pump seems like it has a bearing going out. it's squeeling really bad. i thought it may be the alternator. but without having a metal fan in front of the motor ( and having dual electric fans). i can get my ear real close to the engine to hear where the noise is coming from....
at least now i have a real good reason to buy a new intake.... im going to have to drain the antifreeze anyways to change the water pump. may as well change the intake to match the carb.......... i already found a brand new aluminum intake on ebay for 109 shipped...

Thanks Sparky, Ill be sure to post up lots of picture when I finally get to start on it (remodeling my house right now), but it will happen eventually lol a very slow build it will be! I wish I would have found this forum before you bought that Demon Carb (great carbs but pricey lol). I just bought a Summit 600 Carb for my El Camino and
its greatever fails to start and I havent had to tune it at all, best part it was only $285.00 shipped to my front door.

to dark for pics

ok, ok,......the brakes got bled after work and i drove the truck around the block a few times!..... it runs really good. really does sound like a race car..
pulling it out of the driveway .i noticed how the truck rode very smooth. no noises or driveshaft vibrations. 120psi-front/80 psi rear. it rides like nothing i have ever driven before. (but ive never drove a bagged truck before..lol)...so i took it around the block (half mile) and it did real good. the rear end didn't feel "loose" or anything. i even got down on it and it felt like i was driving a car...lol i love these slam specialties bags..

so i pulled back in front of the house and decided to drop it down until the front tires almost rubbed the inner fender...i had it down to 90psi in the front. 40 in the rear . truck was about 3 inches off the ground. it still rode just as smooth as butter. i dont think im going to need front shocks. anyways.... the truck was about 2-3 inches off the ground.i took it for one more spin around the block before i noticed my header was smoking from oil being leaked from the valve cover. so i headed back home . i backed into the driveway and shut her down..... wow

i dont know about you guys . but after waiting like 5 years to drive my truck again. this is one of the best feelings ive ever felt in my life.... this bitch is low.... :woot:

ive still got alot of things to finish before i really get to drive it on the road.... but im one step closer to finishing it.. at least i can get in it and drive it around...my neigbors are happy now...lol
i will get some pics of the beast setting out in the road tomorrow...
