Thanks guys.
Redden welcome to the forum.
Sparky I think your right about the entire truck thing. These local guys all wanted $3k-$4k for just a 12 valve with no trans or anything. Basically I did some trading for an entire 1995 dodge 3500 with the trans I wanted already there and he was only asking $3k for the entire truck cash wise. Given the truck was a pile of junk but who cares when your just stripping it for the drive train. If you go cummins on a body drop just be ready to redo your trans tunnel, fire wall, and core support if you run an intercooler. I think it's all worth it though for the return on fuel mileage and the power difference. Plus it's a cummins.

I worked on the dually a bit today but I was by myself in the shop for the most part so again i couldn't get my cab off. My little brother stuck his head in every now and again but he just didn't have the time to help me with it today.
I did get my firewall and tub completely finished up. I only had 1 more little piece to make for under the new fuse block bulkhead wiring area. It has a weird concave type of curve to it so it took me a while to roll it out on the English wheel and get happy with the overall shape of it. Just have to seal up the firewall now and paint it.

I also got the factory rear most cross member cut out and welded in a piece of 1/4" 2x4. I still need to box the ends of the frame around it and finish the welding but I'll wait until it's back down to the frame and I can actually turn it upside down to weld the underside.
I also got my air storage wrapped up. I wanted to make my own air tanks. I hated the idea of spending close to $100 for a single tank. I also wanted a rat rod type of look to the air tanks. Something you could tell I had built. I thought about using propane tanks, CO2 tanks,or oxygen tanks, but after a bit of thinking and checking what was available cheap and locally I ended up with a bunch of 3 gallon fire extinguishers. I wasn't sure about how much pressure they would hold but after cleaning them up i found stickers on them where they had been pressure tested a few years ago to 600+ PSI so they should hold up fine.
I got them all welded together with some bent 3/4" solid square stock. I just made some little loop type things and TIG welded one at each end of the tanks. I still have to find a way to mount the cluster of tanks to the frame. In the pictures their just sitting between the frame rails on a couple pieces of wood. I'm sure we'll come up with something to mount them in that doesn't look horrible. I definitely want to be able to bolt them in so I can take them out if I ever need to. Regardless of how I figure out to mount them the dually now has 9 gallons of air storage and I have less than $20 in it after it was all said and done plus it looks bad ass instead of a boring air tank.
I think I've decided to paint the tanks candy red and write "fire extinguisher" or something similar in gold leaf.
Any thoughts on ideas to paint the tanks?? Should I paint them black like the frame or make them still look like extinguishers??

So THATS where that $7 went...

Hell ya!! I had to spend my last $7 on something. Might as well have been fire extinguisher air tanks. When are you going to build my new control arms for this thing??

Thanks a lot man. Means a lot coming from guys that have some killer duallies. It may not be the most expensive truck but at the end of the day I'm hoping I can daily it without getting nervous every time it gets a little rain on it and make it hold up through anything.

I should be getting the Dually back to Joplin by the end of the month. I just opened a body shop with owner of Boonedock customs and our new shop is about a mile up the road from the house. So I should have the truck up here and have it in the shop pulling the cab off and getting body work all done as soon as I can get a bit of a break to go get it.

If anyone in the general area of Joplin needs any work done on anything from chassis and suspension work, custom interiors, or of course custom paint or just collision repair just get a hold of me and we'll help ya out. Just shoot me a message on here or call the number on our Facebook page.

looking really good bro....

Congrats on the body shop!! I wish you would have had that open when I had my Dually painted. They did a horrible job, paints flaking off, splotchy, it sucks! I would have taken it to to you in Joplin in a heartbeat.
