Wait a minute, I just went out and started it and ran it for like 3-4minutes with no smoke... Wish I got a pic of the smoke. Took atleast 10-15mins to clear up. It was all the way down the street and in my neighbors houses though. The first time ?I put easetrough on my exhaust and funneled it into my old bed which was upside down thinking it would subside it but it just filled the bed and puffed out everywhere...

But, everythuing seems fine now, starts like a charm, VERY easy to start and the new alt. is working fine.

Way to go bro! U gotta have faith!Lol.us old folks been around the block a time or two (or 20 in my case) and we KNOW these old trucks.Drive the crap out of it now if you can and dont let it sit up for long period s .The seals will swell up with heat andthe thicker oil, the rings will decarbonize and the oil galleys will clean out the more u drive it.Let us know if we can help.BJ

Do you think running it in the driveway is good enough? Has no ins. or cert... Not to mention I don't have my license.

Ok, I just started it up after putting $15 of super in it. Well... It still smokes. Not as bad but its still doing it. Is there any chance my carb could be adjusted really horribly and it is running rich???

Thanks,
Zac

No its not your carb. Its piston rings or valve stem seals.

Just run it man even new motors smoke till there rings seat (sometimes takes months) it will take time for the rings to free up 100% if ever but its not gone happen over nite

Ok... I will let it slide for a bit. When I go to get ready for cert. I will decide what I'm doing, hopfully it will be fine by then.

Yea, just run it every two or 3 days untill it heats up. This will keep everything lubed. If your really concerned about it change your valve seals and try that, just don't drop the keepers. I did my first set on a mazda at 16, dropped a keeper right down the head. Got lucky and it dropped right down into the pan.

These are keepers all so sometime called valve locks

thay go ontop of the valve to keep it from

A falling into the motor and
B to keep the spring from poping off
here is a pic of it all put togather

thay can be a PITA and SierraX I too have droped one just like you so dont feel bad lol
