Damn, and I thought I was the old one at 41. Nice to here I'm not alone

I think I have to agree though. There comes a point when you realize the easy way may not always be the fun or creative way. And I say this simply from the engineering point of view.

See,I like your thinking. Taking what you've got and improve upon it as best you can. When someone else would just junk the 4 cyl for a 350,you want to eek out as much performance from the 4 cyl as possible. It would definetly be cool to see a fast 4 cyl Mazda, that hasn't had a Honda swap or something...though that S2000 swap is sweet...

from my experiance when i had my duster when i took out my stereo {apprx. 100 pounds} i would only run 1/10th quicker in the quater thats why i cant justify spending all that money to save weight if the end result is just to be fast..by all means it makes sence to save as much weight as possibe where possible but to spend crazy money in pursuit of weight savings is to me is crazy..take the 500bucks you were gonna spend on alluminum control arms and the other 7 hundred ( way underestimated) on a driveshaft and ya got a webber , headder a,hot cam ,a 50 shot of nitrous, and a membership to tripple a incase it blows up..you will deffinatly be goin fast on a stock engine. i totaly understand everyone has his own idea of the perfect truck thats what makes this such a great community..we all bring different ideas to the table and we all learn from eachoter here..

your preachin to the quire here buddy i live to make crazy things like a 300 horsepower 1.3L b2200 with no pistons...shure theres an easier way but your right its not as much fun

oh yea i got this spare block lyin around and im thinkin it might make a good winter progekt..whats the gighest boost anyones ever seen on a realitivly stock bottem end and crank.thks.

oh yea
HAPPY HALLOWEEEEEEEEEN

There was a Mazda B2000 longbed down in Florida that was running a 2.3 liter Merkur(ford) 4 cylinder with an otherwise stock block that was making about 15 pounds of boost and did not grenade itself.I assume the 2200 block is just as sturdy. And I agree -what I like most about this site is even an old cooter like me can swap ideas with a bunch of young whippersnappers and everybody seems ok with all of it.Would be nice if the rest of this sorry-a-- world got along 1/2 as well. Punt- and I think I will stop at the truck scales and weigh Hocsdawg when I get it running again and see what it does weigh.Happy Halloweeney to u all.BJ

when ever they get my dang motor done & i can have a minute or two to work on my truck, & meet bj over in north ga, for some test & tune dyno runs (burp & maybe a couple of them cold bottles of suds), we might all
get to see a "fast 4 cyl Mazda" or at least some #'s from the dyno. then i might carry it to the local strip & run a couple civics or something......

good lord willing & the creek don't rise, it's a date haha!
(though the date is subject to the machine shop getting my motor done, hopefully by spring)

the underlying subject here is ......
What makes your truck cool, to you?
Some of us want speed and some of us want low and slow.

I have said it before, the diversity of us all is very cool. We build our trucks to make ourselves happy.
For me, I want a truck that is my hot rod, in the Boyd / Foose category. A refined machine that is better than when it rolled off of the assembly line, and the ugly beaten out of it, by dropping it, shaving it, and cleaning up its appearance, and getting a new pair of shoes, and some modern conveniences, like power windows a killer sound system etc, And a little more performance on the street.
That is what I want.
And to each his own.
