Okay since doing the weber swap recently I want to clean up under the hood. Plans are wire tuck, emissions removal, and general cleanup of 25+ years of oil, dirt, and other misc crap. So my questions are as follows 1 what have u guys used for a degreaser? I know this seems like a dumb question but there is a lot of crap on the motor and I like to see everyone's opinions. 2 is there any reason to keep the ecu (is anything tied into the harness like radio, gages shit like that!) and lastly what kind of other crap can I get rid of (I have read other threads about emissions removal I'm talking about other crap: all those lil relay like things with wires coming off of them.) sorry if this has been covered guys and I thank u all!

Steam cleaner... oh baby!

You can ditch all of the wires coming out of the passenger side firewall EXCEPT the ones going to the windshield wiper motor. All the relays can go. The ecu can be pitched too. Have fun with it!!!!!

Yup! And simple green!

ive had luck with letting the motor get up to running temp, hosing it with degreaser and shutting the hood, let it run about 10 more mins and rinse off. Repeat as needed. Or a steam cleaner would work great.

Hey Fred. Check my build thread. I have removed all wires and relays on passenger side except the wiper motor wires.

I kept my charcoal canister to help with gas fumes. I relocated it to the firewall so that it's hidden. It's not necessary to keep but have heard that it's possible to smell gas fumes without it.

Driver Side:
Routed wires through body directly to the left of where it goes through the firewall. (See pic)

I only had to extend the wiper bottle and brake level plugs. Everything else is all factory length.

The hood release cable I routed through a hole the was already there. (See pic)

Looks good man what did you do with the passenger side? Did u remove everything? And Guilty By Design thanks for the idea I never thought of letting it warm up. (makes sense...) and thank you everyone else for the ideas it might be a few days until I dig in though it's too damn cold!

This is great info!! Now I know what can go in my engine bay. I did the Weber conversion about a year ago gut left all the other crap not knowing what I can ditch.
What about if it is bagged and tucking a LOT of tire? None of the inner wheel cover and some of the innde fender is not there. Do you just extend the wires and run them higher towards the hood?

Correct. Just grab universal wire straps and self tapping screws and move the wiring up. Still shouldnt have to extend much wiring.

Okay my question is what can I do for the ptc heater wires? Is it safe to get rid of? I do live in a colder climate...(in the winter anyways!)
