any ideas?

ya so i was driving home a few minutes ago.. on backroads, doin nothin more than like 25-30mph.. And i downshifted as i slowed down for a light.. No problems.. Put it in first to start going again. And suddenly i hear a "pop" noise.. like a bang or something.. And the truck started running rough.. Like it would sputter and die.. i could still drive it, But couldnt keep the truck alive unless my foot was on the gas. so it would stall at stop signss, But it would start right back up..

it HAS been idling a little weird lately.. i start the truck up, and it will barely idle at like 500rpms.. Any ideas what it could be.. it really has me worried.. this is my daily driver and i work every day.. so if somethin happens. im kinda screwed

slave cylinder not enganing fully (spelling) letting the clutch grab or something along those lines just a idea

ya, only a $3 part and very easy to fix, check for clutch fluid leaking

so what $3 part is it i should be looking for? it was weird. it took off fine really.. no hesitations or anything. just about 1/2 way thru the gear, it "popped" and the engine seemed to run rough.. like it sounded loud, like i had an exhaust leak.. Which i do, But it sounded more loud than it did before. Im gonna check it all out tomorow. I gess im kinda confused how the clutch slave cyl would prevent the engine from idling. cus as soon as i took my foot off the gas it would sputter out.. and i had to start it back up at like every light..

to me, it almost seemed like i fowled a plug or something, But it didnt seem to run THAT Rough.. which has me wondering.. and i didnt really notice any drop in power. its weird.. i definitely need to figure out whats up tomorow tho, i gotta work at 3. so i dont have much time to figure out whats up, and fix it.

your slave cyl. dosen't control your idle... I say check your fuel filters and spark plugs. Was the pop a metalic pop or like a combustion (exhaust backfire)? You could be passing a piece of trash in your gas. I need more info.

honestly i couldnt tell i had the stereo goin. lol it sounded like a combustion pop from what i could tell.. which is why im thinking it was a plug. It didnt seem to sound like a knock or anything, as far as i know. But then again i had the system up a little bit so i couldnt hear it completely clearly.

Is it still doing it? after letting it sit over night?

ya. still sputtering.. I checked the plugs.. they look ok.. but that doesnt always mean they are ok.. so im gonna buy new ones just for the hell of it.

Also checked the fuel filter.. looked pretty grimey, so im gettin a new one of those.. Any other ideas? could it be my carb? i have an extra carb layin around i could throw on.. But thats like a last resort, cus i really dont want to mess with all the vaccuum lines and shit lol

yea, check your plugs and wires, im pretty sure it has somthing to do with the ignition.

ya im on my way out in a minute to get plugs wires and a fuel filter. I think i have another distributor layin around. Im gonna check the rotor and shit, make sure thats ok. And i know i have another carb. so if thats the problem i coudl throw that one on.

But i dont get why it wont stay running without me putting my foot on the gas. if i keep my foot on the gas, it runs, but its very rough.. it shakes and vibrates and shit, But as soon as i take my foot off it dies out. I dont hear any knocks or anyhting aside from the normal mazda tick that they all have.
